Was a paperback book in the United States.
Trying to find a book that I read around 1980.
Earth has an agency that transmits agents to other planets for exploration.
The hero is exploring at start of book and meets an alien intelligence who has a mental exchange with him.
He is then pulled back to earth and knowing that the agency will review the mission and finding he has had alien contact will quarantine him. Knowing this, he acts like everything is ok, leaves building, and flees before they can detain him.
Later on, while on the run, a woman with psychic ability reports him because his
mind is like a silver mirror to her.
I can’t believe how often through I’ve thought of this book through the years, but remember so little about the story line.
