Found: Middle grade book about boy finding a homeless girl and helps her find her father

I remember it was about a poor boy who sells newspapers to help his family and one day he meets a homeless girl who he takes in with his family and the two of them try to find her father who abandoned her. I don’t remember where it takes place but I know that the setting is a big city back when a dollar was alot of money.
