It is perhaps not a well-known fact that LT has a Anthony Trollope group. So recently I decided to send a few invites to LT members who have AT listed as one of their favourite authors.
If you have decided to join, please accept our warm welcome to the group. We hope you enjoy this little Trollope corner of the LT world :)

Hi owenre. Glad you could join us!

Thanks!
I am reading The Sound and the Fury, Imagine Me and You- my ER book, The March, Dodo and an enchanting bedtime book Intelligent Data Analysis.
So you see a dearth of Trollope and I need to remedy that, but I have vowed to read Faulkner and I shall.

I recently started Can You Forgive Her?, my first Trollope book, and I'm enjoying it very much. I'm still early in the book, at Mr. Cheesacre's picnic which is getting funnier and funnier.

>5 owenre: owenre ~ that is A LOT of books to be reading together. I can only manage two books at a time, max.
>6 atimco: wisewoman ~ I haven't read Can You Forgive Her yet. Sounds like fun!

Thanks for the invitation to this group. I've only read (actually listened) to one of Trollope's books: The Warden, but I was so taken with it, I expect to move on now to Barchester Towers which is in my TBR pile.
The Warden was quite amusing and so topical. He could have been talking about any organized religion or any form of government. Universal characters and situations. I look forward to future books by him.

#8 I just finished reading The Warden earlier this week. My first Trollope was The Small House at Allington--which, of course, comes later in the series. So I plan to fill in the blanks over the summer.
(I gave my last exam today. Hooray! Or, as Trollope would likely say, "Hurrah!").

Do you have the summer free for reading Trollope, Cariola? My son finished his senior year high school exams today. Hurrah, here, too!

I certainly hope so! I gave my last exam yesterday afternoon and have finished grading two batches of freshman exam essays. Now all I have left is 15 Shakespeare exams and semester papers, 30 Brit Lit exams and papers, and calculating class participation and semester grades for a total of 85 students. (It will be a long weekend.)

Results:
32.4% Barchester Towers
18.2% Phineas Finn
17.4% Dr Wortle's School
15.5% Can You Forgive Her?
11.3% Doctor Thorne
5.2% The Way We Live Now
total votes = 1644

Couldn't it be biased by the fact that Barchester Towers is more owned than the other Trollopes?
Another question: I envisaged to read sometime The Way We Live Now. But from the price of copies I can see on eBay, I understand that it is a very big book. Is it something like twice the size of Barchester Towers or even more? (Sorry to speak of Trollope as if I bought potatoes...)

>14 Pepys: Yes, I guess ownership is a confounding variable. But I imagine Trollope devotees own the majority of his books.
I think The Way We Live Now is around 800 pages, and Barchester Towers around 550 pages, depening on the editions.

It looks like I'll start Trollope off with Barchester Towers as it's in my library...I think I did start it once, but it went the way of quite a few very good books.

>17 PensiveCat: ladygata ~ Be sure to let us know what you think of Barchester Towers (good or bad)! We'll be waiting... :)
19PensiveCat
OK... now I feel more motivated!

Hold up, it looks like The Warden comes first in the series, so I'll start first. I'm a bit confused as to how many books are in each series. Maybe I should get through these first two before I sweat it.

OOPS! Alas, I did a sloppy job when beginning my cataloging. I DO have "The Warden" in a small-format, hardbound, illustrated edition (Doric Books). I recall, longlong ago reading lots of Trollope from library. ~~~~ I'll keep this OFF the shelf and read along with you nice folks now.

One title I don't see mentioned in the thread is The Eustace Diamonds. Curious, that. It's a favorite of mine, so much so that I forgive it for being the book I lent to my second wife that, she said, made her say yes when I proposed.

Hi Richard,
The Eustace Diamonds attracted some discussion & mixed reaction here...

The Way We Live Now would be my pick.

Hi, I just found this group! I am on a personal challenge to read Trollope's main novels this year... specifically the Chronicles of Barsetshire (which I have finished in April), the Palliser series (which I just started last month), and The Way We Live Now (which I read in May).
