I went to the Philadelphia Book Festival and managed to catch the authors of He Said Beer, She Said Wine, Marnie Old and Sam Calagione, discussing their book. It was pretty fascinating, as the two authors used a debating style over whether wine or beer went better with certain foods. The highlight was when they had audience members yell out certain foods. I wish I could remember their responses for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

I got my book signed and both authors were very friendly and happy to talk. Flipping through the book, it looks like it contains a lot of information that beer geeks already know, but it will be useful for me to learn more about wine.

I was a little iffy about associating women with wine and beer with men (as a female beer geek) but it seems that many women do choose wine over beer in tastings, and I'll just have to keep educating my sisters on how awesome a good brew can be!

Great username for a member of this group!

Is the emphasis on specific foods that go with a given drink or on specific drinks to go with a given food?

The book is divided up into food categories, like vegetables, poultry, dessert, etc. Then those categories are divided up into a section pairing a few common dishes with wine, a section with those same dishes paied with beer, followed by a section with the two authors arguing over whose choices were better. In that last section, there's a list of all the dishes so that you can take notes on whether you preferred the beer or wine with the food, if you're playing along at home.
