Has anyone seen this Al Pacino documentary?

What do you think of it?

I haven't seen it straight through, but I watched most of it in an acting workshop that I did. I'm not much of a fan of Pacino, generally, but I really enjoyed watching this.

Just being able to watch others go through the process of getting to know the story, the characters well enough to bring them to life on stage (and on film) was really fascinating for me.

The part that stuck with me most was where he was in a courtyard (I think) trying to figure out the best way to say the opening line. Brilliant stuff.

Thanks for reminding me! I'll have to put this on my Netflix queue.

It's absolutely wonderful and very, very helpful for use in the classroom. Richard can be a tough play for students, and they appreciate seeing that it can even be confusing for the "experts." By presenting it in segments dedicated to the main characters, the film really helps students to focus and sort it all out. It includes some hilarious moments (Pacino reading Cliff's Notes in a cab, one of the actors miffed that a "scholar" gets his moment on film, a couple making out in the audience, etc.).

Looking for Richard provides an excellent standard against which to measure others" portrayal of Richard III, e.g., Laurence Olivier and Michael Byrne (Ambrose, BBC series)

It is a good documentary and interesting to see Richard III from an American perspective. Of course Pacino got bored and went off studied Shylock and put in a fine performance in THe Merchant of Venice.

Originally, we got Looking for Richard on VHS tape, and subsequently wanted it on DVD; in order to get it, on DVD, we had to get a box set, with other Pacino movies (of his direction). As Looking for Richard sort of hooked us on Pacino's Acting, we have bought other of his movies, in addition of course, to Merchant of Venice (e.g., Two Bits, and Frankie and Johnny).
