I feel like there must already be a thread like this, but I can't seem to find it. And I figure people might have changed their categories anyway--I certainly have!

Basically, I've fallen behind in reading these threads and can't decide where to start just based on a name. So, I'm wondering what categories people are doing?

Mine are:
8 Dewey Decimal Challenge
8 Ancient World
8 Math/Science
8 Children's/YA Fiction
8 Adult Fiction
8 LT Group Reads
8 Already-Started
8 Random

8 Debut Works
8 Learning About Other Cultures Books
8 BookCrossing Books
8 Books by Israeli Authors
8 Books Originally Written in a Language Other than English
8 New-To-Me Authors
8 Fiction Works about Teens or Young Adults
8 Short Stores or Essays

Ahem...These categories are still subject to change! :D

I've been pretty good about not changing my categories, though I sure have moved the books around on them quite a bit:

8 Gothic classics
8 Short story collecitons
8 Long books (500+ pages)
8 Books in Spanish
8 General Nonfiction
8 Literary Criticism or Author Biography
8 Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror
8 Longtime TBR

I'm very happy with the categories that I selected:

1. The oldest books in my closet
2. Canadian Lit
3. 1001 Books You Must Read . . .
4. Books for University
5. World Lit
6. Big Books
7. Book Club
8. Other books from my closet

The only category that hasn't worked out is my book club, either because we ended up skipping some months, or because I had already read the book chosen and didn't reread it. In other words, it was out of my hands. But I think I'll use some of the group reads I'm doing here at LT to fill this category.

Next year I'm going to add:
1. Women authors (with a focus on Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf and Margaret Atwood)
2. Prize winners

I'm not sure which two categories I'll replace them with.

My eight categories are:

1. 1001 Books
2. From the TBR Pile
3. British Classics
4. Books Released in 2008
5. Austen Addiction
6. YA Novels
7. Historical Fiction
8. Non-fiction

From the TBR pile started as a Shakespeare category, and Austen Addiction started as "Books by Authors who are New to Me." I'm thinking of dumping the Non-fiction category for a re-reads category, since I just finished re-reading three books, and am thinking of re-reading several others. Since my progress has been really slow otherwise, I might need to do that in order to make it to 64 books.

I may yet change these (I've already added one), but this is what I've currently got.

1. Non-European/American
2. Books that changed the world
3. Someone else's favorite book
4. Books older than dirt
5. Books in Japanese
6. Poetry collections
7. Folklore/Mythology
8. Just 'cause I want to!
9. Historic Nonfiction

I'll probably combine Folklore and Older than Dirt- they're too similar.

4. Christian Literature
