I just wanted to gripe about claimed menus, but this is really something that probably will most likely not need fixing.

Someone has claimed all of the public libraries in my area. I know I can add events to claimed venues, but I also cannot change pictures or descriptions of these venues.

It's so ... er, limiting. :(

Just wanted to vent! :)

ETA...particularly since the claimant of these venues does not even add events to them!!

You do realize that nobody can simply "claim" a venue without going through proper channels? They have to convince Abby that they're "legit".

Since this must, therefore, be someone who works for the library system, you might want to drop her a comment about any errors in the descriptions. You might also ask that she "unclaim" them at least long enough for you to add pictures. (It may be, you know, that the system doesn't want the pictures or descriptions changed!)

I do know that a venue must be legitimately claimed. Therefore I was *not* seeking a fix for this.

The claimant does add pictures. I just like the ability to change them at will or update them. I was simply getting spoiled from all the abilities I previously had to work this system.

No, I'm not going to enter into negotiations with the owner of a claimed venue. There are too many other things I need to deal with daily as it is.

It's petty, but annoying. People who claim venues have a right to add what they want. The venues are now "theirs". That is so unlike everything else on LT. I guess that's what bothers me the most!

Anyhow, I think that the claimants should pay Tim to monopolize the venues or the venues should be open for anyone to work. MHO...

Not really. The venue page is rather like a profile for that venue. No one can change your profile picture or your profile "description" (not to mention that no one can change your catalogue either).

Some businesses might not really care, but I'm sure some would want to keep control over their public "face". Perfectly reasonable behavior, IMO.

You're absolutely right, but I had liked the ability to play with the venues that we had earlier.

As I said, there's no fix for it. It began when I'd taken pictures of my favorite libraries, and, when I eagerly went to upload them, they'd all been "claimed". I'd wasted my time. Then no event information was ever added to those venues. It was annoying. That's all.

I'll move on to other things. :)

I just won't waste my time taking pictures of venues any more, lest they be claimed before I get a chance to post them. Happily, I can still add events to claimed venues.

And you can add comments to the venues if you want to add anything to the description.

Basically the only thing you can't fix is the pictures.

...which was *exactly* what I wanted to fix.

Oh, well! :)

I've come across a claimed venue that needs to have its address edited. I left a message for the claimant a month ago but there has been no response or change.

This venue: National-Louis University Library - Chicago Campus is being mapped incorrectly because the address has been entered with the Floor number included.

This is causing it to show up in Michigan City, Indiana (and in my local list) when it should be in Chicago.
