The topic seems to come up in many Quaker discussions. Turned off by the behaviours of some who espouse Christianity but behave in a distinctly un-Christ-like manner, many thoughtful, spiritual people skirt the God word, preferring words with less baggage: The Spirit, The Light, The Universe, etc. Today I found the following quotation in T Edmund Harvey's 1949 book Workaday Saints:

God is not God’s name but an opinion about God.
