The Summer Fiction issue of the New Yorker (June 9 & 16) contains a never-before-published story by Nabokov, "Natasha." In the Contributors section, it says that there is a new edition of Nabokov's collected stories coming out this fall. Does anybody know anything about that? I can't find any information about this anywhere (and I'm a reference librarian!)

News to me. I'll ask around.

I still don't have any information about this, but I do see some "placeholders" on some retailers' sites that appear to indicate a reprint of the existing edition of the stories:

Oh well. I was hoping for a nice, new edition with newly-translated, previously-unpublished stories.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but interesting all the same.

*Bump*

Just joined this group as I am experiencing a resurgence of love for Nabokov's work. I've yet to read any short stories and have read criticisms of the collected works as apparently Dmitri (who seems to get quite a lot of bad press.....) has changed the order around from the originally published books of short works.

Anyone have any thoughts on the best way to read the stories? Should I seek out the originally published collections or does it not matter too much and is it ok to read them as they are collected in this new volume??? Any help gratefully received... :)

I don't have any strong ideas on the topic. But if you haven't read any yet, well, I envy you. My favorite is definitely "Signs and Symbols."

Thank you! I guess the fact that I found a lovely old Penguin copy of Nabakov's Dozen today in a 3 for £1 deal at a local second hand shop must be a sign from somewhere (especially as it contains Signs and Symbols!)

My wife loved Nabokov's Dozen so much I bought her the Collected Stories and she's reading them in order; it's basically chronological order (of original publication), so I'm not sure what the complaints are about. At any rate, she's enjoying it greatly!

>9 languagehat: I'm a bit of a fan of collections of stories in chronological order of publication, so I can't understand what the issue would be either.

I knew if I kept checking this group there would be a new message eventually!

:) I pop in here occasionally! It's just a case of finding time to read more Nabokov so I have more to offer!
