Various E. F. Benson enthusiasts have recommended Barbara Pym to me and I have just finished Some Tame Gazelle. I can see why people enjoy both authors as there are definite similarities of style. For example, both writers make orinary every day events seem much more gripping than they really are, and both are quite mischievous towards their characters. There is a review on my book blog, which you can find at http://pursewarden.blogspopt.com

Although all Barbara Pym’s novels have apparently been reprinted fairly recently, they’re very difficult to find in the bookshops around here.
I managed to find a copy of “Crampton Hodnet” in a charity shop, and this proved to be an ideal start, since it was one of the first novels she wrote, although it wasn’t published until after her death. I found it delightful, and I’m now awaiting the arrival of “Some Tame Gazelle” and “Excellent Women” from Amazon.
