She really loves her dad, but he has an unfair advantage in that he is home with her since he is retired. They get to sleep late together and sit on the couch together while he reads the paper.

Casper's Kahuna Doll looks like Scottie's Gingie Doll. Gingie is (was) a gingerbread man with a squeeker.

I say was because he survived for about two minutes before he became a one legged orange man with no stomach, stuffing or squeeker.

She's had him forever. Even when he's just been washed he smells like Hell's toilet block. She loves him.

Is Casper on Ihasahotdog.com wearing a pig nose? I'm sure it was her but there was no sign of Mr Phlegmy as the final clue.

We'll have to await the definitive answer there, J, but I've been doing a bit of detective work and it's not the same sofa (though I'm sure Casper has been in other rooms too.)

This is the only picture I have with Casper and a pig snout. (Which is actually a silicone pot holder, but it turned into a dog toy briefly because it reminded me of her.)

I saw that one too and fell in love. He looks so happy and peaceful. You can almost tell those towels have been newly washed and dried and are still nice and warm for him to sleep on.

It reminds me of that famous photograph of the hippo sleeping peacefully in the zoo, knowing that the people are safely locked up in their cage at the other side of the bars.

That is Casper taking a Salvador Dali nap. Dali never used to sleep (from what I have been told--could be hogwash) but used to take naps sitting in a chair holding a spoon. When he dropped the spoon, he woke up. That is Casper napping with her mega-Nylabone chew. Bull terriers need extra sturdy chews. This one happens to have teeth cleaning bristles as well, but I only bought it because they didn't have any other "big chewer" bones at the store that day. It actually was bone shaped but she has chewed off one side of each end.

(She wasn't really asleep, the flash made her close her eyes--but it makes for a better story. LOL!)

Very sporty looking.

Scottie has a fleecy tartan coat that she hates and a pink hoodie with Princess embroidered on it that we bought as a joke for a one off picture. It makes her look like Eeyore.

She never wears either of them.

pepper Has 2 articles of clothing. One is a T-Shirt her paternal Grandfather bought her in Hawii (which she has outgrown but still squeezes into it for grandpa) and a winter coat that an old neighbor gave us when her dog outgrew it and Pepper finally fits in. Pepper likes that one, but only if she is cold then she'll bring it over to me and throw it at me saying "Lady i'm cold put this on me now!" She's a very demanding dog.

Kinda looks like the tan one except it has sleeves and velcros from b/t her front legs to where her ribs end. She looks so stylish

*runs off to show MrCal the coat*

40phlegmmy
Nov. 7, 2008, 4:05 pm

cal769--I think that's why Mr Phlegmmy liked this one. I showed him a nice pink plaid one and he didn't like it. People always think Casper is a boy, so I figured the pink plaid would look more girly. (Or make her look like a drag queen...) Mr P like this one so now we are back to "What a cute dog. What's HIS name." Oh well. Mr P is the one who walk her, so I like to keep him happy. The coat has polar fleece on the inside and is wind proof and waterproof and it covers her BUTT. lol

I could never get my Murphy a coat....we'd never *ever* get it off him....he's a bit of an accessory ham in that way.

when we take off his collar and his choke (which is just his jewelry..never gets used) he pitches a fit and whines at the area we set them down until we put them back on him.

50phlegmmy
Nov. 10, 2008, 4:52 pm

Good eyes! Yes that is the Outlander series and I read them one right after the other last year. Also on that shelf, The Outlandish Companion, Chris Bohjalian's The Double Bind, Elizabeth Edwards Saving Graces, For the Love of a Dog by Patricia McConnell, 1001 Reasons to Love Dogs which has a bull terrier on the cover and various horse books. No English Passengers. I am another person who always looks at the books in other peoples photos.

Casper has not shown an interest in alcohol which is a blessing I am sure.

51QueenOfDenmark
Nov. 10, 2008, 5:27 pm

Scottie doesn't object to the odd alcoholic drink now and again, especially if someone puts a glass of Bailey's Irish Cream down at a small Scottie's nose level.

52cal8769
Nov. 10, 2008, 7:00 pm

55Mandy2
Bearbeitet: Nov. 11, 2008, 2:11 pm

Going agaisnt the law of books...Purely judging by the covers I'd go

Quoz
Little Big Man
A Mercy
The Hour

From least appealing to most appealing...I'm a big fan of saving the best for last...again that is purely cover based.

56phlegmmy
Nov. 11, 2008, 2:06 pm

Both A Mercy and The Hour I First Believed came out just today. I had pretty much decided on the Toni Morrison. Yes, she loves that chew thing and is sleeping with it right now.

(I have no idea why the touchstone brings up "Moon Called" instead of "A Mercy". How odd.)

Nov. 11, 2008, 5:55 pm

Mandy, Little Big Man will go into a rather big TBR pile only because I have read it before, way back in the 70's sometime. I actually chose A Mercy first because I like Toni Morrison, but also because it is the shortest. How's that for picking a book? lol! The Wally Lamb will be next and Since William Least Heat's book Blue Highways is one of my all time favorites, I'm saving what I hope is the best for last, Roads to Quoz, despite it's admittedly bland cover.

74Mandy2

75Booksloth
Dez. 15, 2008, 1:30 pm

So we all wrap our dogs in blankets (or the duvet, in my case, when I get out of bed for a while). And of course they're not spoiled. And yes, as my husband keeps reminding me, if they were wild they'd be sleeping outside in all weathers. But they're not wild. And if burglars ever came in to steal those blankets/duvets Senor Sloth, for one, would be jolly grateful. And yes - that could happen.

76cal8769

Well you are obviously laying like that so Bones can get comfy, right?

78QueenOfDenmark
Dez. 15, 2008, 4:26 pm

Scottie has been known to start the night sleeping on top of the covers at the foot of the bed and yet be discovered in the morning to be under the covers in the middle of the bed.

We also have the wild dogs verses household defender conversations, she isn't s spoiled dog and it is a king size bed and she is a tiny dog. My arguments that she is more eco friendly than a hot water bottle or electric blanket have not really convinced Andrew that a dog in the bed is a good idea.

Usually though she prefers her own basket during the night (I think it has something to do with Andrew being a fidgeter in his sleep. Scottie likes her beauty sleep to be undisturbed.)

Casper looks very cosy.

79cal8769
Dez. 15, 2008, 8:38 pm

We 'fight' over Bones. We both want Bones to sleep against us. Lucky for me I win most of the time.

80phlegmmy
Dez. 16, 2008, 2:37 am

Casper weighs about 40 pounds and isn't really all that big, but it is amazing how much room she can take up in bed. She starts out on top and I had her trained to sleep at the foot, which she will do if there is blankie for her to burrow under as we keep our bedroom window open at night. But Mr Phlegmmy thinks she needs to be under the covers. So our routine is this. I get up extremely early for my job (2AM) so I am generally off to bed with a book around 6 PM. Casper goes with me because I have two bedtime cookies for her. She'll lay on top for a bit and pretty soon she shows up by my shoulder, staring at me. I of course continue reading. Pretty soon I feel a paw on my shoulder. To continue the game, I keep reading. Pretty soon the paw is taptaptapping me on the shoulder and I lift the covers. She snoogles right beside me so that when I put the book down and turn on my side she is right along my lower back and bum. She keeps that part of me warm and I love feeling her breathing beside me.

That feeling is destroyed however when she decides to get on my head later in the night, about an hour before the alarm is to go off ...

I haven't been on line in a long time, and am just catching up on reading all the posts, and looking at all the groovy pics of Casper. Wanted to share a picture of Toto in his rain coat. The ony piece of clothing he owns. Here in South Florida is rains quite a bit and the coat is more for me then him. He doesn't mind the rain, but I'd rather not have the smell of wet dog, not to mention the actual wet dog trapesing through the house. So...I put his little slicker on when the walk just can't wait... Here he hides his eyes so as not to be recognized by anyone he knows. Oh the humiliation LOL

101phlegmmy
Jan. 24, 2009, 2:45 pm

Cool. When we saw her, we got to see her autism in action. She was speaking at a large horse event, so half of the people were horse people and half were people who obviously were parents of kids with autism. At one point in the lecture she made a comment that sort of didn't sound like it went with the lecture. She sort of out of the blue made a comment about having a hard time concentrating when there is a lot of movement going on. (She used to watch automatic doors, like the ones in grocery stores). She hesitated and said something else about the movement. At that point we sort of craned our necks to see that an older teenage boy in the front row was rocking rapidly back and forth. Temple literally could not go on with the lecture until the mother and child went to the opposite side of the room. There were two people signing for the hearing impaired and Temple said that she couldn't have them in front of her either. It really made us think about the problems people with autism face every day.

Phlegmmy, was showing my daughter Casper...#106 deserves to be a portrait over the fireplace. So enjoy your post.

Thanks BONS. How that goofy dog managed to look so regal for a split second, I will never know. Yesterday she was lounging on the sofa between my husband and I. We were both petting her absentmindedly and she apparently go so relaxed that her big noggin got too close to the edge that it started to drag the rest of her body off. She farted loudly and fell off the couch, landing on her feet. How can that be the same dog in that picture? LOL

HA! You obviously had her relaxed! Sometimes I look at one my kids and think they have this persona stuck inside them and ask them, "Who are you really?" They usually just laugh at me like they have a secret. Maybe Casper has a little Lucille Ball inside!

Phleggmy and ljreader, the dog photos are so very wonderful! I also find the background of many of the photos to be a fabulous indication of what often goes together-books and dogs. It comes in most handy when I show my husband the photos here on LT, to have shelves and piles of books in the background! Hubby feels consoled by the fact that there are others that live in homes filled with books and ruled by animals.

#123 ME TOO, Mmignano. It's a perfect way to say silently, "There are Others"!

Casper just pulls off those shots! #106 will always be my favorite of Casper but what an adorable profile as well.
