For $9.99, Doris Kearns Goodwin's book, "Team of Rivals," is now available on the Kindle. It's the book being talked about so often recently inasmuch as its focus is on President Lincoln and his Cabinet, and it's my understanding that President-elect Obama and his team are studying the book, as well. It's been highly rated on Amazon.
In about three weeks I will have had my Kindle for a full year. I still love it, and think it was worth the investment-- even though it is selling for $359. rather than the $399. I paid for it. I've never had a single problem with it, and since I've recently had eye surgery, I now use #2 or #3 font rather than the highest font as I did in the past.
A final point: I'm sure many of you have become (invited) Vine Voice reviewers for Amazon, just as I have, and enjoy the benefits of that program, but they now have a new form of critical review, again by invitation only. They don't have a name for it and one does not post reviews on their usual book page but through a specific, designated e-mail address. This time around Amazon invited 50 reviewers to do a critical review of Robert Fulghum's new novel. "Three Wishes.' He's the one who wrote, "Everything I need to know, I learned in Kindergarten," which I had never read. We had 30 days in which to review the Advance Reader's Copy/Uncorrected Proof of "Three Wishes," and will be sent an autographed hardcopy of the book when it is published in the U.S. in February.
It's a long , long novel of two volumes, and I mention it here because I think it's interesting that the reviews are not posted on Amazon's regular book page. Do any of you readers have any idea why Amazon is doing selected reviews this way? I haven't yet figured out their rationale for this new mode of review, but perhaps some of you might have a reasoned explanation--or a good guess.
