I don't know about anyone else but there are some series that I would absolutely love to read that I haven't been able to (usually because of lack of funds). My top ones are:

Wild Adapter
Psychic Power Nanaki (I was able to get vol 1 through the library, but that was all they had)
Satisfaction Guaranteed
Shout Out Loud! (again, first three are in my library system, but then they leave off!)
Rhysmyth (which happens to be by an LT author)

and so many others!

What's on your wishlist?

I want Tokyo Crazy Paradise to be translated so that I can own it. (I broke my resolution and read it on onemanga, but that isn't the same as owning it.)

This might be a stupid question, but what's onemanga?

www.onemanga.com has a variety of manga series you can read online. I've been following Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and xxxHolic through their site. They carry a huge variety although nothing published by TokyoPop.

sites like onemanga.com are great but scanlated so you'll find so variances on translations.

I'd like to add to my Tarot Cafe series, xxxHolic, Aqua, and Snow Drop (technically a Manwha I know).

i guess i'm not a hard-core manga-holic seeing as i don't really buy manga all that much...i just visit the library every week and get like 3 volumes every time.

I have the same problem as Tsubasa-hime. ^_^

What i'd really like is the continuation of the translated volumes of E'S, Satoru Yuiga. Which stalled at vol.4 i think, because Broccoli Books went under :(

Others i'd like are:

Himitsu~ Top Secret
Bloody Monday
Tokyo Crazy Paradise
Amatsuki

to name but a few.

The toppers of my current "want" list:

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle vol. 23
The entire set of B.O.D.Y. (I currently only own volume 2)
Totally Captivated vols 4 through 6 (I think that is all that is out)
Nabari No Ou
Black Knight vol. 4
Silver Diamond volume 4
Innocent Bird vol. 3

I'm planning in advance and hoping to get gift certs for Christmas :-)

19:

TokyoPop seems to be pulling its "we're cancelling this but we don't want to admit it so we'll push the release date back into next year" thing with Silver Diamond, unfortunately. Volume 5 was originally due out this month or next, I believe, and now it has vanished from the TokyoPop site and amazon has it due out next March. Given that volume 4 came out in April 2009, volume 5 coming out in March 2010 is more than a little suspicious.

And given that we're 14 volumes behind Japan already... :/

They might have canceled Silver Diamond? What a waste.

It's certainly looking like it. It's the same thing they did with Genju no Seiza and quite a few other titles--the next volume just never came out, with no explanation and no mention of this fact on the TokyoPop site proper.

>21 lohengrin:

that not good. I guess I'll have to check the upcoming volumes of the series that I'm following. I hope that there won't be any problems.

There was also the Shojo Beat thing. They stopped publishing the magazine. It's really too bad.

There's quite a few series that I'd like to start. Emma is at the top of my list right now though.

Get a job and buy your own manga.
It's what most of us do.

Libraries are also good places to find manga. And if your library doesn't have it, you can try an inter-library loan and borrow from another library system.

i love the library! i find that buying manga isn't really worth it unless you buy the whole series and really love it...otherwise you just have random volumes that only took an hour or so to read each.

#28 i'm too young 2 get a job... i would if i could... that's what i was going to do

32Papiervisje
Mai 20, 2010, 1:33 am

OK, then use your library card.
(I assume that you are young enough to be eligible for a library card.)
Most libraries now have a decent collection all-ages manga.

Off course you don't own the manga, but at least you get a chance to read them and show your parents that most manga is quite innocent.

yeah...my library has a lot actually. but i know my school library has like none. aren't there like manga trading sites and stuffs? or like maybe you could use mangafox or onemanga...though thats a lot of computer time if you are reading a series off of that...

36neonazu
Jun. 17, 2010, 12:33 am

But don't you think it's better if you could have a live physical feel of the manga itself?

37mjrcatgirl
Jun. 20, 2010, 9:20 pm

i do actually, and i dislike the crappy scanlations. the legit editors translate more accurately and i feel better about waiting for each volume than reading chapters illegally

38keristars

37> the legit editors translate more accurately

You don't read ARIA, then? TokyoPop's volume 5 had some really awkward translations. I was really frustrated when I got my volume and left a nice rant in place of a proper review here on LT (especially comparing it to the nice quality of the first three - which, I'm thinking now, they only did in order to get people to buy them again if they already had the ADV versions). They also did a really crap job on translating originally color images to black and white (honestly, a bit of time with the Levels in Photoshop could've fixed it), and they ended up muddy and just not the same quality as the rest of the art (though that's possibly in the original tanks, too - I'm not sure if they kept the color pages from Comic Blade). On the other hand, the ARIA scanlation team came from 4chan and appear to have done a really good job on it, going by what they've done for Amanchu!, so they probably don't count as 'crappy scanlations'.

I'm not saying that scanlations are always better than what the licensers do, but there are plenty of cases where the legal stuff is a pale comparison to the fans'.

(However, I did laugh and laugh at a scanlation the other day, where there was a translator comment along the lines of "I don't know what old women have to do with playing card games, but that's the literal translation..." when the line was translated as "I guess I have the Old Maid's skill!" - for the record, that one isn't licensed in English.)
