Hot turkey sandwiches with stuffing and lots of gravy for lunch—courtesy of Christmas eve dinner. I've got the turkey carcase simmering to make cream of turkey soup.

Dinner tonight comes from Christmas, itself: used up the remaining potatoes making a potato salad, with tzatziki sauce instead of mayo to use up the remaining cucumbers, and will put that with some fresh rolls (OK, not everything's a leftover!) and thinly sliced remains of Christmas beef.

And, of course, much pumpkin pie because we never make just one (or two).

I think I like the leftovers better than the actual meals! :-)

At my house, it was a Baked Omelet (using up some of the Christmas ham) and Potato Pancakes (using up some of the leftover mashed potatoes), along with homemade applesauce (using up some of the Christmas fruit).

My Xmas dinner scared me and made me sick. I try not to think about it even now. So definitely no leftovers for me. Sad....

>3 fannyprice: Did the Turkey attack you, Fanny? Your'e supposed to kill it before trying to put it in the oven!

>4 TheTortoise:, LOL, try latkes soaked in blood. Next time I will remember to let steak sit and juices flow onto a separate plate first. Its truly disgusting. I gag even thinking about it now.

>5 fannyprice:: That does sound a bit unappetizing!

December is always a very packed month for me and reading gets put on the back burner. But tomorrow Hubby and Son leave me up here on the hill in Vallejo for three days while they go back to the Valley to work. I should be able to make a big dent in that stack!

Oh? You meant food? I hope I have some in the icebox when the guys leave--otherwise I will starve. I don't do food. :-D

Well, there was some leftover Christmas gumbo, but that's gone now. And some breakfast potato casserole that's nearly gone. I think the wife and I are going to make faux-Olive-Garden salad and crack open a bottle of Pinot Noir to try out the new stemless wine glasses for dinner! I think there's still some of the smokey gouda left...

My husband has turned our leftover goose into what he calls a "goose-ognese sauce". I don't even like goose when it's freshly roasted.... still, better than turkey and mushroom pie which always used to make me gag uncontrollably as a child.

I've never had goose. I like turkey, duck, various game birds but, somehow, I've never gotten around to trying goose. Maybe next year.

Well since we had both Thanksgiving and Christmas at various other relatives out of town, hubbie and I have decided now that we're home again, to cook our own holiday dinner tomorrow. So a small turkey (big enough for lots of turkey sandwich leftovers) will go into the oven with some squash casserole and be served with a fresh loaf of crusty bread, some cranberry sauce, and of course some gravy. might even have to make a few mashed taters to hold all the gravy. One thing we definitely will do without is COOKIES...I'm finished with them for another year.

Is now when we're all supposed to start reading The Omnivore's Dilemma?

Goose is my eldest son's absolute favourite - he had eight helpings. In his second year at primary school, they were given an assignment to design a "healthy sandwich". Amongst all the chicken and cucumber, my son's plan for pitta bread with goose kind of stood out... I'm not a big meat-eater really so it's not my thing.

Ah, The Omnivore's Dilemma - yet another clamouring from the shelf!!

My ex, who is hosting, does not believe in leftovers. However, last night he took all six of us (our children, their respective "others," and me) to a fondue restaurant--and we were totally overwhelmed by the fabulous food! Tonight is a traditional dinner because everyone is finally together for the celebration of the holiday. Hope everyone here continues to have a glorious new year.
