New year, new books...

There's a freshly created a 90 book reader's challenge for 2009 called "90in09" over on Livejournal. Read, list, review if you feel moved to, and discuss your '09 reading list.

Meanwhile, happy new year, everyone! :)

Sounds good! I read 70 in 2008, I bet I can top that this year.

Hmmm ... if I started reading fiction again this would be do-able ... I've been targeting reading 72 non-fiction books a year the past few years (and managed 73, 79, and 78 the past three) but I don't think I'd be able to hit 90 with out "padding" my reading list with fiction (which I find takes 1/2 to 1/3rd the time of a similar length serious non-fiction book).

In order to get through an extensive back-log of non-fiction books, I'd sort of put in a "ban" on fiction from my reading list for five years, but broke down and read one fiction title in 2008. Since that "taboo" has been transgressed, it does open up the possibility!

Gosh, only 90!! I remember the year I went on a reading diet for a bet with my other half. I managed 52 books till the end of June then I cracked! The only thing I did with the extra time I had was watch more TV and read magazines, so I went back to the book devouring!

Anyway I'm lucky with no family and I read fast - I'm not boasting. Good luck to anyone who takes up the challenge and finds it useful!

LYzzyBee... Lol @ 'Gosh only 90!!' I know what you mean :)

The 'challenge' for me is to actually review each book - or at least two out of three, if I'm honest. Last year I took part in the sister community (80in08) and made 86 because I didn't count rereads... and as I spent most of the year comfort reading old favourites, my actual count is probably around the 170 mark. I'm going to only counting my new reads again this yer. It makes it more interesting, slightly more of a challenge, and encourages me to try new authors :)
