I have a collection of children's books displayed in a red cardboard box that includes the titles Black Beuty, Tales of Mystery, Alice in Wonderland, Captains COurageous, Treasure Island, Tom Sawyer, The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Carol, and Little Women. The are all leatherette covers, and are part of a "Best Seller Classics" series.

I'd like to add them to my library, but I have no information on them--no numbers, no dates. I've only found one book from the set (Christmas Carol) on an internet search, and that didn't provide any help.

I know they are fairly old (60s, possibly 50s), but does anyone know anything else helpful about this collection?

Appreciate your help!

Your collection as I am sure you are aware is book club press. Very inexpensive to make and usually done in cheap paper stock. The box itself is of course used to present a collectable appearance but it is nothing more than a typical club edition. These publishers while they tend to stay in one genre are used by the various publishers throughout the year.

Not sure if that helps.

I believe I own Treasure Island form this set. It has a red leatherette cover with "Best Seller Classics" written on the bottom with a crest above it. I was going to list it on ebay, but if you're still interested in collecting the series, let me know and we can arrange something.

If you are still looking for the red leatherettes to add to your collections, I own 3 of them...

Treasure Island, Arabian Nights, and Call of the Wild (Jack London)

If you are still looking for these ones, please let me know...

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I have stumbled upon this conversation in the search for the origin to my red leatherette finished Best Seller Classics copy of 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Though I hold little hope that anyone that participated in the above conversation is still active, if so please respond!

Hi guys!

I stumbled upon a stack of 11 of these in a thrift shop yesterday (books 1-12, missing #6)! I would love to complete the set to display--I'm not sure which numbers are which, but I believe there are 15 in the set, so I am looking to find #6, #13, #14, #15.

I believe the titles of these are: The Scarlet Letter (Hawthorne), Arabian Nights (Galland?), Captain Courageous (Kipling), & The Invisible Man (HG Wells)

I think these are so neat! :)
