Having had some pictures disappear on me I tracked them down to here and have been drawn into the world of picture helpers.

There's just one thing I'm not sure of. I understand that four flags mean a picture gets deleted completely, so when a picture is flagged is there really any need for repeated flags in quick succession? I can see the logic in having two flags, but I'm a little uncertain about three. It's just that I flagged a few pictures and very quickly afterwards, when I'd only just written a message on the pages of the people who posted them, there were already three flags there.

I'm not entirely sure how this system works in detail, I'm just a little worried that being one flag from deletion could result in pictures being deleted by accident before the poster has had chance to make any changes.

I'm sorry that this question is so long-winded and probably doesn't make much sense.

No--it makes sense. However, since quarantine is not paginated, when there are a certain number of photos flagged, others get pushed off the page and will not reappear until more pictures are deleted. That was the situation for a long time and pictures that there was a legitimate question about would be inaccessible for a long period of time. I think the way things are now is better than the alternative.

Also, I notice how you say three flags were added quite quickly. I, for one, always try to remember to wait a while (until I've been to quarantine and seen the picture several times) before adding the fourth flag. And, since those pictures last that long, I have a feeling that others do it too.

But it is a legitimate question (and makes sense). :)

Ah, I think I understand now. Thanks ^_^

It's a bit strange that only the first page of quarantined pictures is shown, although I'm sure this is something that will have been being discussed at length amongst the people who do this a lot.

Thank you for replying so quickly and nicely :)

Be careful, Collectorator. I looked at your profile and know your favorite bookstores and therefore where to find you. . . ;)

I was wondering about this myself - I just uploaded my first 2 author pics (after getting permission and forwarding to Abby) they did not get flagged but I was curious about the process.

I am predominantly a "combiner" but would be happy to extend my LT addiction to pic flagging but don't want to trample on any conventions. I have been reading back through the group threads to glean some insight as to the significance of being the 3rd flagger (from what I can see - 4th flag = gone). Trying to determine how aggressive to be about "agree" flags.

From what I can see - If no one adds the 3rd (and 4th) flag then the pic never goes away and we can't access the backlog. If the 3rd (and 4th) flag happens too quickly then the uploader doesn't have the opportunity to correct the error (particularly annoying if someone took the effort to contact them).

Is there a way to see when the pic was uploaded and how long it has been in quarantine?

Not that I am aware of, unfortunately.

Picture Flaggers are the red headed stepchildren of Librarything.

I've decided to just flag indiscriminately for a while, because I've had it.

I'm halfway joking. But I'm not going to be adding completely pointless flagging explanations anymore.

I created a wikithing page with extensive flagging reasons somewhere. I'm too lazy to go cut and paste it at the moment. lilithcat and christiguc added some of their own edits as well.

BTW, as regular flaggers might have noticed, I'm taking a break from flagging (and CK and combining and ...) for a bit. If the quarantine page gets out of hand again, send me a profile page message and I'll jump in again. Otherwise, I'll be back eventually. (I decided I really needed to actually read some books for a while instead of spending multiple hours putting info into LT.)
