I read an article today that stated that Kindle was planning to offer ebooks for iPod and iPhone. Amazon will supply a widget that allows ebooks to be read on those devices. The widget will not offer a text-to-speech ability.

The question is, how will this affect the Kindle and its sales. Is the book format the same as for Kindle with the widget translating from the Amazon format? How will this affect Kindle sales and ebook sales for the Kindle?

Is anyone interested in using their iPod or iPhone as a reading device? Will it affect your use of the Kindle?

I downloaded this app today. I haven't tried a Kindle yet, but I love this app. It has already encouraged me to buy a Kindle book. I have tried many other e-book readers on the iPhone, and this one is the best. I have resisted the Kindle because I thought it was too big for my purposes. I wanted something to throw in my pocket and have with me all of the time. Now I have it.

The download process is somewhat strange. You have to go through a web browser to send it to the app. You can do this on Safari on the iPhone but no through the app itself. Oh well. It didn't bother me that much. I sent sample chapters of some of my "tob be read" books and have already removes some from my list because I didn't like them. It also caused me to buy another one. I love the sample feature. I will definitely be buying more in the future.

I've had a K1 since last summer and I just got the new K2, but I don't have an iPod or an iPhone and I don't plan on buying either one of them. I do have a cell phone (Verizon), but I've been planning to call Verizon and switch over to one of those pay-as-you-use-it type of accounts because all I really have it for is to call AAA in a roadside emergency.

In other words, I'm not a mobile phone user generally. As far as using any kind of a mobile phone as an eBook reader, I'd never do it because of the small screen size, and the Kindle has all kinds of functionality that I suspect these other devices (iPhones, iPods, whatever) lack.

One big problem I'd have with using a mobile phone for eBook reading (or playing games, or anything else) is that I'd be worried about running my battery down and then not being able to make a phone call in an emergency. And that's what I have a cell phone for, real emergencies.

K2 moreover is thinner than K1, so once I get my K2 mEdge cover I may start carrying it around with me in my pocketbook a little more than I've done with my K1. I'm still going to keep my K1 as a back-up, though, especially because it's got the SD-card and the user-replaceable battery that were eliminated on K2 (which was how K2 got "thinned down").

I have a Kindle 1 and just love it. The other night I downloaded the app for my Iphone. It is unbelievable the way it works!! If you read on the Iphone (for example, sitting in the Dr. office) you can just sync it and when you get home the Kindle will be on the same page! You can download any of your already-purchased books to your Iphone. I prefer the Kindle for reading, but it is too large to carry around all the time. Now I have my books--and my phone with me all the time. I just downloaded Jodi Picoult's new book and have it in both places. I also have an Ipod Touch. You could do the same thing with a Touch, but you would have to be in a place with wireless connection for the page sync to work.

The Iphone is very clear, but it is small--and I wouldn't want to have that as my only reading device.

The Whispernet sync feature is wonderful. I always carry my iPod Touch with me but my Kindle stays at home a lot. Being able to read for a bit while I'm out and have it sync automatically is, IMO, a really bitchin' feature.

I also read on the iPod when it's too dark to use the Kindle.
