Too bad the group is dormant...

I'm pretty new to westerns myself. I've only read a few (Lonesome Dove, Shane, the first two Longarms, Edge: The Loner and .45-Caliber Revenge) but have been snapping up new ones like crazy. I'm about to start Marcus Galloway's Death of a Bad Man.

It'd be nice to share western recommendations from time to time.

It is too bad this group is dormant. It may say something about the Western, I suppose.

I adore Westerns. My favorite authors are H.A. DeRosso and Elmore Leonard. Leonard, of course, is well known, though admittedly NOT as a writer of westerns. DeRosso, on the other hand, is all but forgotten. I categorize him in my library as "Western Noir". Of his books I like: .44, The Dark Brand, The Gun Trail. His short stories are wonderful. I have a couple of old pulp 10 Story Western Magazine that have his short stories in them.

I will have to give Gilman and Evans a try. The others you list I do like.

Hi, I just joined the group because I write Westerns, so I hope it isn't dead! I have found that finding groups for western readers is difficult, perhaps because of the readership. Everyone I talk to says they like westerns or know someone who does, so perhaps a little nudge is needed to get them reading again.

Hey! Some responses! I think I'll start cross posting some of my reviews for westerns. See if I can get some sort of discussion going.

I've just started Peter Brandvold's Rogue Lawman and like it quite a bit more than the previous book of his that I'd read; .45-Caliber Revenge. That one was okay, but this one is much, much better.

Hopefully I could create a new spark in this group.The campfire is acracklin' like a Tom Waits song and the coffee,well what New York salsa cowboy can make good brew without his purified tap water.Anyhoo,I found all my Westerns reading from using my library's Novelist fiction database.Although their subscription expired,Im currently using the Google book search.The Richard S Wheeler series of Barnaby Skye is my current favorite...
