Thanks for your suggestions, rolandperkins, for Hawaii and elsewhere. Hawaii is one state with very few books I'm aware of.

The Charlie Chan mysteries are mostly set in Hawaii. The racial attitudes are very dated, but I still find them worth reading.

Two great Historical fiction books about Hawaii are Molokai and Honolulu by Alan Brennert

I found one by accident at the library and had to go and get the other.

I've always thought I would get around to Hawaii by James Michener. Long ago when I was in high school I worked at the public library in the afternoons and I remember it was a big best seller and everyone that read it raved about it. That was only, oh, about 40 years ago!

A couple of books written in and about Hawaii have really moved me, namely:

#6, clue, I always thought I'd get around to Michener's Hawaii, too, but never did. This might be the time to do it.

The beginning of The Memory of Eva Ryker, (one of my absolute favorites, and completely underrated!) takes place in Hawaii right before Pearl Harbor.

I stumbled across Hawaiian Son, a biography of Eddie Kamae at a friends of the library sale. I'll have to drag it off my TBR pile for this challenge.

Oddly, Honolulu (1938) a musical famous in its time, had only one Hawaiian (Leinaʻala Holt (?) ) in its named cast members.

The Colony was an interesting read about the exile colony on Molokai.

Talk about serendipity, I think that Father Damien was canonized this week for his work with the lepers in Hawaii.

The centre story in Cloud Atlas is set in a post-apocalyptic Hawaii. I'm pretty sure someone familiar with the area could decipher a lot of the places described.

I read the fictionalized Moloka'i by Alan Brennert and quite liked it.
