New Group Members - Introductions

Thanks for orgainising this group BookLizard.
I really enjoy the 1001 books list and I'm looking forward to reminiscing about ones I've read as a child and ones I've enjoyed with my own children.
My kids are now teenagers and my youngest niece is 8, so I'll be interested to see what everyone else is reading with their kids. Especially the younger age groups.
I really miss reading Slinky Malinky out loud to my kids, shame how young teens don't appreciate it.

Thanks for joining. I'm looking forward to criticizing the editors' choices. Like why are three Harry Potter books on the list? Wouldn't one be enough? Why those three? Are we supposed to read the first book, skip the second, read the third and the fourth, but don't bother finishing the series? Come on!

I was happy to see Tomorrow, When The War Began on the list, but couldn't believe they didn't include Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.

Hi! I've seen the book in the bookshop, but have resisted buying it as yet. I'm hoping Santa will read my mind and will put it under the tree for me this year. I'm quite a fan of the adult "1001" list.

Thanks for the google spreadsheet link, and for entering them into the Awards here! That way, I can at least have the list, if not the editors' comments. I'll put some in the Awards too, when I get the chance.

Thanks for posting this on the YA board - I'll enjoy taking part in the discussion.

Do we just dive in? Or are you going to do this in an orderly fashion?

Hello! I've been mostly lurking in the other 1001 group, because I've been too busy to tackle that list in a systematic way, although I hope to get around to it eventually. I'm starting a job as an elementary school teacher next year so I'm excited to have this new book and a new group to go along with it! Thanks to everyone who has shared this enthusiasm so far!

5> The only thing I'm doing in an orderly fashion is helping to add to the Awards and Honors list. I started at the bottom of the list and I'm working my way to the top.

I plan on starting a thread for myself with the number of books I've read from the list and just add posts when I read more. I don't have time to do a retroactive list of what I've read.

I'll probably add some tag like "1001CB" when I add books from the list to my library.

I like this group.
I collect awarded childrens & YA (Dutch awards) and at first look at the list I have already 130 down, 5 waiting in my TBR pile, so I can look how many of them are available in Dutch.

Oh, good . . . me too! Although there are some absolute gems and delights on this list, overall I find it completely uninspired. And I won't be buying the book, because I already own all three editions of the New York Times Parent's Guide to the Best Books for Children (let's just say that, at first glance, it doesn't look like the 1001 people went much further than this book in making their list).

I helped a little on the New Zealand side of this publication with sourcing some of the cover images as they were after first editions. I think any publication such as this can only be a representation of the best writing that each country has. I know that we weren't happy with the initial selections for New Zealand and did have a chance to make some changes. I like that the spread is so international, there are many great looking books to discover.

edit: adding that on a quick look through the book I've read around 327 and already have several on my tbr.

I saw the book today at a store, and it really is very lovely. Lots of crisp, bright cover illustrations. I've quickly gone through the list and I think I've read about 190 (although that would probably be higher if I had seen the covers when I did it).

I just joined the group today. I bought the book for myself for Christmas and my daughter and I were skimming through it tonight. She was very excited to see some of her books in there and the titles of ones that she wants to read.

I don't know how many I've read, and there are some I think I read when I was young, but now can't remember for sure. Nonetheless, there are many that I wouldn't mind reading again.

Hi, I'm pretty new to LT but was so excited when I saw this group. In total I have read 84 of the 1001 but thats only counting the once I have read in recent years. Thought I would increase the challenge but rereading the ones I can barely remember but at least its a lot of 0-3's.

#2 I too was happy to see Tomorrow When the War Began on this list. I absolutely love this series.

Just heard late last week that the local primary school were my 3 children (now teenagers & young adults, youngest 13 eldest 20) all went to school had the school library burnt down! It is thought it was deliberate! We are all pretty cut-up about it. We had donated books to the library each year that my children attended.
I plan to donate more books later in the year when they have had a chance to rebuild and have somewhere to house the books.
I think I'll choose mainly from this list. Please keep the recommendations flowing. :-)

Tess, here. I am a teacher and have read and do read a lot of YA literature. I am also a grandmother to 5 and have read books aloud to children, even chapter books, for years! From looking at the list, I would guess that I'm 30-50% of the way through the list. I'm going to make a ticker and keep track. Thanks for the group!
