Ghost Hunt by Shiho Inada and Fuyumi Ono
Ghost Hunt is a story about…well…ghosts!

Product Description

PARTNERS IN FEAR

The decrepit building was condemned long ago, but every time the owners try to tear it down, “accidents” start to happen–people get hurt, sometimes even killed. Mai Taniyama and her classmates have heard the rumors that the creepy old high school is haunted–possibly by ghosts from the Second World War. So one rainy day they gather at the told school to tell ghost stories, hoping to attract one of the suspected spirits.

No ghosts materialize, but Mai and her friends do meet Kazuya Shibuya, the handsome young owner of Shibuya Psychic Research, who’s been hired to investigate paranormal activity at the school. Also at the scene are an exorcist, a Buddhist monk, a woman who can speak with the dead, and an outspoken Shinto priestess. Surely one of them will have the talents to solve this mystery. . . .

the anime for this series is also really good.

Definitely sounds interesting! I know I like Fuyumi Ono's storytelling (presuming, of course, that this is the same Fuyumi Ono who is behind The Twelve Kingdoms). I'll have to check it out!

I really recommend reading the series and I would have to say that the manga is better then the anime.

As far as it being the same author, I'm not sure, sorry.

Yeah, it's the same author. I'm eagerly awaiting volume 4 of the TokyoPop translation for The Twelve Kingdoms which is due for release in March.

I have heard a lot about the series from people on LT, but I have never actually see the books in stores.

I just buy mine from Amazon.

Amazon.com has a much better selection of things then Amazon.ca, but because I'm Canadian I can only get free shipping with Amazon.ca. Shipping is expensive, so I don't generally buy too much stuff online unless I can get free shipping.

I may try to order some stuff from another site called rightstuf.com. But I'm still thinking about it since I have to order $150 to get free shipping.

I've just read the first volume of Ghost Hunt as a result of this thread. I liked the story but am very curious if any knows if the young adult novels the manga was based on were ever translated? I love manga, but I also love traditional novels and would really like to read the novel translation if there is one.

For this one, I don't think there is a novel translation, but I'm not sure. The series is good though and I recommend that you continue the series.

P.S. I love both novels and manga too :D

This is certainly one I'm going to continue on with :-) I've already requested the next two (3&4) from the library.

It's definitely nice when the library carries manga. I think that I have almost every manga series that the library carries on hold. I just hate when they don't have the entire series.

Just wanted to say thanks a bunch for mentioning this series! I finished off volume 5 last night and am liking the story better as I go along.

ya, with a few series you have to read past the first few volumes before it gets really interesting.
I'm glad you like it :D

Yay, I found this series a while ago in a huge book warehouse sale. They were going for $3 each so I figured why not, and bought the first 4. Problem is that I haven't seen any more of them in the stores since.

>$3 a book is a great deal. Good luck finding the read of the series.

Over the weekend I started watching the Ghost Hunt anime and totally fell in love. It makes so much more sense to me than it did reading the manga (where I consistently kept mixing up John and Mai). I even did a little foray into looking up some Ghost Hunt fan fic. The downside is that I completely spoiled some parts of the manga/anime I haven't gotten to yet *sigh* Still, I'm looking forward to watching more over the upcoming weekend. I'm up to episode 18.

lol, I'm happy that your enjoying yourself. I believe that I've only watched up to episode 4 of the anime and I've read up to volume 9 of the manga.

Unfortunately I'm very busy with school, so I haven't been watching too much anime.

Great series to watch for Halloween. I'll be watching it in my anime club next Saturday.

I've watched anime and I loved it

I've read all or most of the published manga, and I've watched the first 3 episodes of the anime. I prefer reading the manga, but the anime was really good too.
