This photograph was taken in early 1941, in California.
Can anyone identify who it is?
Thank you.

The phone looks like a Western Electric 302, which was introduced in 1936. www.digitallydo.com/phone/we.html

The pack of cigarettes looks to be Lucky Strikes

The typewriter looks like it could be a Remington Noiseless Portable #N41852

Unfortunately I don’t have a clue on the person.

Oh, sure. But who are his tailor and his shoemaker? Tell me that!

I like his socks. But I have no idea who he might be.

It's a bit too 'washed' to be sure (needs more contrast), but he reminds me a lot of Bertrand Russell.

He looks a bit too bald to be Bertrand Russell, although I see the resemblance.

Three things make me doubt it is Russell. The nose is different, Russell’s is thinner but more pronounced the hair, in all the photos I have seen of Russell he sports an impressive mane of white hair and it had not thinned in his 1950 photo on Wikipedia, and he is smoking a cigarette and there is no pipe paraphernalia, in my experience people don’t switch back and forth between the two forms of tobacco.

Russell’s chin was distinctive but the angle of the photo does not show a good angle.

My daughter, the almost PhD in Creative Writing, says this man is the love child of Boris Pasternak and Nabokov. I take no responsibility for this suggestion.

I do say the look is all wrong for Russell---especially that bottom lip and the lack of hair.
