Why Geologist love beer?

Hmm - seems to be true all over - my first geology field trip the prof brought beer, but informed us that it was up to us after that. I think I realized at that point that a career as a geologist required a taste for beer. In fact, I can't remember many geological gatherings that didn't feature beer at some point. I'm glad to see that some things haven't changed.

Oh, I think it is most certainly apart of the culture. I have no definitive hypothesis as to why beer is such an important aspect of the stereotype. I still think that geology attracts people that are inclined to favor the taste of malty beverages.

I always found it funny how professors were willing ignoring all the underage drinking around them. Something the university wouldn't approve of, but certainly enhanced the experience of trip. I think I'll remember the colloquiums we had each night long into the future. I also found it curious how the topics of conversion could flow from the intellectual to the trivial and back again hardly skipping at beat during these meetings and other gatherings.

I found the fact that we were in the middle of nowhere & w/o personal transport available make the likliehood of vehicular mayhem pretty much impossible anyway. On one trip the instructors (lubricated by a fifth of Jack Daniels) did a rather surreal seminar under the stars on the subject of dispatching rattlesnakes w/a Geology hammer! Useful info for the field geologist indeed. 8^)
