I finished the DVDs of Season 5 over the weekend. With less than 2 weeks before the US premier of the final season, I just checked out Flannery O'Connor's Everything That Rises Must Converge. I'll try to post questions and thoughts here as I read. I welcome others to do the same, whether you read along or have read it already.

I've finished the first two stories. I've only read O'Connor's stories here and there over the years, as part of a compilation or in school. It's a different experience reading stories back-to-back, especially the title story and "Greenleaf."

For a quick Lost connection, on page 9, I liked the passage where Julian and his mother are arguing over what makes a person "who they are."
------------------------------------
"'True culture is in the mind, the mind," he said, and tapped his head, "the mind."

"It's in the heart," she said, "and in how you do things and how you do things is because of who you are."
------------------------------------
In some ways, this mirrors the clash between the mind and the heart, reason and faith that we have seen throughout Lost. This passage also got me thinking about how Cuse/Lindelof have said that the final season will be much more like the first in its emphasis on the characters and how they have evolved over time.

There's something to get us started. I'll wait and see if anyone else joins in before I keep posting.
