I did not, though we're thinking about doing that one next year. Did you run?

I'm glad to hear it was a well done race! I hope we get to do that one soon. Great job passing more people at the end! That's what I always hope to do too. Sometimes that works better than others. ;)

I've seen prayer stations but I can't help you. I don't know their function either but I like your third guess.

Did I? I consider myself uncompetitive and slow! I'm hoping to run a marathon in Kansas in April and shooting for about 4:45. It's a trail marathon though, so I don't know if that's realistic or not. But it's Kansas, how hilly can a trail be there?

I need to be almost an hour faster to qualify for Boston, which is in tentative hopes for the next couple of years, but I'd have to start doing speed workouts to do that ... which is why I say "tentative hopes." ;)

I suppose I could keep my Boston pace for a 5K but no bets on much farther than that. Based on the Runner's World idea, I should be faster than race pace for the shorter distances so I can slow down to marathon pace for that event. And I would definitely need to do more miles a week. Lately I've been doing about 30 a week, which is fine when I'm moseying through marathons. Not great to be serious about times and such.

It seems that it's easier to be really good at either short or long distance. When you work to bring down your 5K time, your marathon time will probably worsen. When you work to be a good marathoner, your 5K time goes out the window. Although if you're running consistently, you'll probably be decent at about any distance. I've found that running consistently helps my marathon times and helps me feel better throughout and post-race much more than anything else.

You're probably right that weight interferes more with longer distances. It's that much more time that your joints and everything is feeling the strain of any excess. My dad has been trying to lose weight to make his running easier and he agrees that he notices the extra weight more on the longer distances.
