I'm searching for a book I read when I was young (1980's) about a pig who wore clothes and walked on his back legs, I'm quite sure all the other characters were pigs or animals too. Some pages were longer than others (like the very hungry caterpillar) and it was hardback. I really hope someone can help find this.

Was it a single story or a collection of stories?

The only one I can think of at the moment is a story which was written by Kenneth Grahame, of Wind in the Willows fame, but looking through the texts available on Gutenberg I can't actually find that particular story in any of the collections. (The anthology it's in isn't the greatest in revealing its source material, though. I'm still trying to track down most of my favourite stories in their English/original form.)

I read it in Dutch, but the main character is a pig - presumably called something like Bertie - who goes off with several rabbit friends to have a Christmas supper. The farmer eventually wakes to find all three characters asleep and the pig is still wearing a party hat.

I doubt that's the one you're looking for, but... 's what I've got. I hope it helps somehow.

ETA: You might also want to consider asking your question here as well. ^-^

#1 "...some pages were longer than the others (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)..."

So it's a picture book, with some pages which fold out?

#3 I thought of Freddy the Pig, too, but that's a chapter book, so it didn't seem likely to be what dandan8081 is remembering.

Was it Pig Pig by David McPhail?
Pig Pig Grows Up; Pig Pig Gets a Job are the only titles I can come up with, but I think there were more

Portly McSwine, by James Marshall, perhaps? First published in 1979.
