.....to highlight discussion threads in other groups that we might never otherwise look in on?

This vampire discussion caught my eye today in the Political Conservatives group:

That pesky vampire problem, and others

This is like watching a group of children talk about God. They have no real idea what they are talking about, but they have such firm convictions all the same!

Considering that God and vampires are probably the two most heavily documented things in this world that have not been scientifically proven to actually exist, I am not surprised.

Blimey the old 'if you think about it you must be evil' gambit!
I for one enjoy folklore, legends, myths and the study of such.
I research the vampire legend and its differences in different cultures not because I am at heart preoccupied with the occult, but I am interested in people and their society, hence I am interested in why this idea has had such a long-lasting hold.

I agree. Studying how vampires have changed over the years gives a fasciating insight into society in general.

The loss of black and white issues, the longing for someting beyond the mundane, well worth a look.

The only risk to the soul is trying to ignore the evil and hoping it will go away.

Yes I think it is interesting how the vampire myth often comes back to repressed sexuality and a preoccupation with the notion of immortality.

I've been watching that thread for a while now when it pops up in "Talk". The name of it made me chuckle.

wow, its funny to see how closed minded ppl are. how can you say wat a good book is and wat isnt, at least saying that about a whole genre of books. fine if you want to say that book had a bad plot or boring characters. but to dump on other people and books are wrong.also vampires are beautiful creatures, and weather certain prudes want to admit it or not, sex is one of the most discussed topics next to religion. personally i think if you dont want to read the book then dont. just dont dump on other ppl if they do.

why is it that closed minded people always open their mouths?
-cant remember who said it

You're 16 and you still don't know about punctuation, capitalization, or spelling?

I mean, come on here, you're playing with the big boys now. At least get to know that shift key and spell checker before you try to talk to adults.

That sounds like a personal attack, deniro. You ought to delete it.

oh i know what they are but i would rather not use them. i can put down what to say and get my point across without the help of proper grammar, punction, capitalization, and spelling. didnt you no that as long as a word starts and ends with the correct letters and has the same number of letters that are close, not totally correct your mind will process it. and yes i get A in english i just choose when to use it.

Bela Lugosi says: I vork vairy hard to learn Eenglish. Eet ees vairy deefficult language for a Hungarian to learn. You should all be proud zat you can speak eet so vell, and alvays use eet properly!

>.> Um, so that's my attempt to bring the two subjects together, even though I can't write in a Hungarian accent. I'ma go hide now.

Look, I'm an academic, which means I get slapped around (figuratively. well, mostly) when I'm not 100% grammatically correct. But when I'm on LT I like to use my own voice, which I'll admit sometimes sounds like a bad take-off of Cher in Clueless. And it could be, and has been argued, that the new adaptations to language and syntax are an integral part of the emerging popular culture and should be nurtured as a form of modern expression.

So... Vampires, huh?
