I teach fourth grade and it is time for a laugh out loud read aloud. We just finished Alabama Moon and Rules by Cynthia Lord. We need
a good laugh out loud book for read aloud. My kids like the newer books. Has anyone heard/read about any new books that would fit the bill?

You might want to try an Alcatraz book by Brandon Sanderson. never mind they aren't laugh out loud, just laugh inside.

Try I, Jack by Patricia Finney. Very very funny. You might check it first, however. I read it aloud to 7th graders, and we all loved it, but your kids (or you!) might be embarrassed by the very mildly "off color" bits.

The story is narrated by a big lovable but dumb golden retriever. He talks now and then about "wet messages" and "hard messages" that he and other dogs leave about the neighborhood. And he falls in love with the dog next door, and puppies do in fact result.

I would suggest (A Crooked Kind Of Perfect) by ((Linda Urban)), it made me laugh on more than one occasion. Also made my 9 year old sister laugh like heck. It's relatively new, published in /07.

The True Meaning of Smekday is a little older, but it's hysterical. A Whole Nother Story is also funny, as is The Problem with the Puddles. Soon to be released is a perfect choice, Guys Read: Funny Business a collection of short stories by some very funny authors, edited by the very funny, Jon Scieszka. I have posted reviews for all of these titles if you're interested.
