The Dead Tossed Waves - Anybody Reading

I just finished this companion novel to The Forest of Hands and Teeth and wondered if anyone else had read or was reading The Dead Tossed Waves and if so what they thought of it. One of my first favorable impressions is that though the novels are linked and in the same universe, they stand-alone and finish a story. I am a little tired of the franschising that takes many books to complete a plot. Thoughts?

I haven't read it yet but it's waiting in the wings. I'll star this and let you know when I finish.

I read it last month and thought it was better than The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I felt there was more depth to this installment, more questions were answered. It's definitely very open-ended, though, and I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

I pre-ordered it, right now it is somewhere between England and Australia - will be pounced on as SOON as it hits my PO Box :)

It isn't available in New Zealand yet, but I'm looking forward to reading it. Goodness knows how long it will be before it arrives here. Have just investigated it, and it supposedly became available on April 1st, but neither of my favourite bookshops have stock here or coming either! I hate waiting...

I read it. It's not really a sequel to the Forest of Hands and Teeth, and they wouldn't have to be read together to understand the story. It's not a series in the sense that you need to buy additional books to complete the plot. You're right; series are kind of overdone in teen fiction right now. I have to say that while I loved the first book, the Dead Tossed Waves was a dissapointment.

I'm not sure what the price of books are like in New Zealand, but here in Australia they are so much more expensive than onther countries. It really frustrates me so I tend to buy my books from overseas. I was stoked when I discovered Book Depository.

I'm in NZ and use Book Depository all the time. With the current exchange rate the books are usually as cheap or cheaper than in the NZ shops, plus you don't have to wait months for them to get released here. Shipping usually takes about 2 weeks.

Thanks for the advice strandedon8jo and fabtk. I've been avoiding using Book Depository - trying not to do any damage to the VISA card! I have looked at several books on their site and it is very very tempting...

I use the book depository - also fishpond.com.au - both do free freight - and both have wish lists so I can keep track of what I want :)

#9 Yeah it's definitely not good for the credit card. I keep resolving to just go to the library - but I usually can't wait to read the new stuff I find out about on LT!

After reading the first book and how it ends with so much to look forward to with Mary's life and then the next book doesn't even mention her except as an older woman. That was disappointment in a nutshell. I liked the story about Catcher and Gabry but it was just a little too weird.

I read this book and was disappointed. To me it felt like exactly the same story as "In the Forest of Hands and Teeth" told through another person's eyes. The former MC, Mary, becomes 2-D to make way for her daughter. I didn't like or connect to the more timid MC. I was also expecting some answers to the many questions Book 1 leaves us with, and got none of them. It's worth a read, but nowhere near as good as the first!
