Thought you might be interested in this link and new feature - I brought it up as a recommended improvement, and LT implemented it.

In short, this will highlight books which receive their first review on LT. My suggestion was exactly for books like those found on this group (although I didn't know about this group at the time). There have been suggestions to sway the posts a different way, but I am an "obscurist" - I love finding things others don't know about - of course, I just thought about it - your group may not like it because it will draw extra attention - and probably add new members.

Some don't want unique books in that system because that would include spam works, and spam is hated more than new singletons are admired. I don't much mind whichever way it goes, but if I found one book that only I had, if I loved it, and if I reviewed it, I would like my review to have a shot at this listing.

"Some" Who are these some who can't tell the difference between a unique book and spam?

What scale is use to measure this hate versus admire comparison? Is it the LT Troll Ratio? or perhaps the Windbag Curmudgeon Index? ;-)

The situation is that there are spammers that create fake books as a vehicle for their spam and use the review field for advertising info and website links. Not surprisingly, some people don't want to give the spam more attention by having it show up on the First Reviews list. Like many things in life, it's a trade-off -- in order to keep the spam off the list, you lose out on real books that are unique.

Are you telling me I shouldn't enter a unique book because it could be spam? Spam is BAD. ( I should know I have helped get rid of a lot of it. 1654 votes again spam at the last count. http://www.librarything.com/spam_works.php) But the following are questionable statements

I am yet to see a spam book and or review tagged ULTB.

So, by the previous statements, if I have a copy of "The Collected Poetry of Richard Nixon, A Handwritten Pondering on Power and Failure" I shouldn't put it into LT? "It's unique...oh my gosh it's unique, some one might hate it because spam is also unique! gasp!"

It's okay, misericordia. Nobody's saying your ULTB are spam, or those of any of the good members of this group.

It is, however, a fact that most spam 'books' are unique, entered only by the spammer, and that spammers often review these books. (No, of course they don't tag them ULTB. That's missing the point.) Thus, including reviews of your legitimate singletons -- which nobody thinks are spam -- would also mean including spam reviews. Since legitimate unique books are by definition very obscure and not of interest to a large number of people, most people decide it is worth not seeing those reviews highlighted in the "First Reviews" module to avoid seeing spam reviews highlighted in the same fashion.

Oh come on! This is a fact? And people are adding comments on this thread telling me this is okay?

I like the whole first review thing it is totally fine. Further it has little or nothing to due with ULTB singleton or otherwise.

But seriously, read this statement.

Let me break it down.

1) SOME DON'T WANT...
Some who? What thread, what discussion, did some one say "I don't want unique books in the system, they include spam."

2) ..unique books...include spam works...
Oh great now spammer will get two accounts and enter the spam works twice to make it more legitimate, that will clear this confusion right up.

3) ...spam is hated more than new singleton (i.e. unique works, ultb tagged, etc) are admired...
Really? I hate spam but not as much as new singleton. Who hates spam more than new singleton. I call on you, stand up be counted! Join the library of no SPAM books! OH it is also the library of no books...

PS Mr Durick, I do accept that you did not direct me or member of this group to do anything. It was my over active sense of sarcasm that generated that. However, the comment that "spam is hated more than new singleton are admired" in a group dedicated to the love and admiration of new singletons, well that just can't go un-challenged.

Seriously no one has a comment about this? I thought it was pretty funny. I guess "Handwritten" should have been "Recording", yeah that would have put it over the top.

Hmmm, it appears that the argument for no singleton books in the "first review" notices has twisted sideways into a defense of singleton books on LT.
