Kids Books on Books

I just got a couple of children's books that I love and am anxious to share with my two young readers. The first is Please Bury Me in the Library by J. Patrick Lewis. It's a collection of cute poems about books and reading. Another is The Red Book by Barbara Lehman---this is a pictures only book that "tells" a wonderful story about a girl and her adventures IN a book. The best is Wild About Books by Judy Sierra and illustrated beautifully by Marc Brown---this is a beautiful story about a librarian who brings her book mobile to a zoo and encourages the animals to explore and love books.

WILD ABOUT BOOKS is a nice story and it has a very Seuss feel to the text. I would also suggest STELLA LOUELLA'S RUNAWAY LIBRARY BOOK. There are many others but those are the only ones coming to mind at the moment.

This is more for a teen readership:
Dear Author: Letters of Hope by Joan Kaywell. It's a compendium of letters by teens, their reactions to books, and the author's answer. It's very moving to see how books can help children deal with tough problems.

I bought (to wild acclaim) a copy of Parsley Rabbit's Book About Books for my (now six year old) son. He'd had it read to him in school, and was very excited to get his own copy.

It's a charming book, all about books.

Bats at the Library by Brian Lies is a beautiful picture book that would appeal to toddlers.

I've just finished reading a book about a little girl overcoming dyslexia Thank you, Mr. Falker. It's a personal account from the author and my favorite quote is: "The honey is sweet and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee who made the honey, it has to be chased through the pages of a book!"

Where have I been. Sure glad I found this group. Children's books on books.

How to Live Forever Colin Thompson

I went to an excellent lecture last night by a fellow named John Granger who has written a number of books of analysis on Harry Potter. After hearing him I'll have to give J. K. Rowling a lot more credit than I did before and will probably have to reread all of her books to catch the things he says I missed. I picked up and got him to sign his Harry Potter's Bookshelf: The Great Books Behind the Hogwarts Adventures. It appears to discuss not just the books that actually appeared, but the ones that influenced Rowling. I'll keep you posted with my opinion when I get through it.

I collect them, read them, and always buy an extra copy for my grandchildren: Stuart Little: Stuart At the Library, The Pagemaster and The History of Making Books: From Clay Tablets, Papyrus Rolls... not to mention How To Live Forever
