Manga Titles You Dropped

What manga did you drop or got bored of? I did stop buying a couple and even donated the ones I am not going to re-read to the library.

I very quickly lost interest in D.Gray-Man. I'm not a big fan of Bleach either.

However, I do realise that I am hugely outvoted on these views though. :-)

I gave up on Death Note very quickly. *cringes and waits for the rotten food to start flying* I just couldn't get into the idea of the main character being so...evil. And since Matsuda was the only character I even remotely related to, I quickly lost interest.

Another that I couldn't get into was The Drifting Classroom. It was just too...I dunno...I don't want to say weird because I usually LIKE weird...but it was just...not my cup of tea. :/

There's also a handful of yaoi/shonen-ai titles that I couldn't finish - Passion and Our Kingdom come to mind. There are just a couple of yaoi plot stereotypes I tend to avoid - overly aggressive semes (i.e. I like you, so I'm going to rape you, then you'll like me too) and semes that are younger than the ukes. Of course there are exceptions to this dislike...but not many. ^_^;

From what I've bought, I don't really like Death Note right now. I've only read the first volume, but it's not interesting me that much.

A couple of people have told me it gets better, so sometime when I'm not busy buying other manga, I'll probably give it another chance. For now, though, I'm not going to bother with it.

I liked Death Note until the end of the first arc, and then I was like "screw this nonsense" and stopped reading (back when it was first being serialized and scanlated - it was the very first manga I'd ever read). I picked it up again last summer to try to finish, and I kind of regret it. I wrote a review here about why, if you check the Death Note box set work page reviews...

There are loads of others that I've dropped, and they're all basically the popular licensed shounen and shoujo titles. There are a few seinen ones, like Solanin, which I dropped because despite the lovely art, it was too depressing for me. And then Kingyo Used Books I dropped because I just couldn't get into the episodic nature, without any real links between them. If it were just one or two oneshots, I'd like them, but I never felt attached in any way to the characters or the bookstores, and when I did start wanting to read more, the story would be over and it's time for a new set of characters.

I recently decided to stop buying/reading lots of titles.

Wild Ones
Mixed Vegetables
Haruka
Kuroshitsuji
Kaze Hikaru
Pandora Hearts
Kingyo Used Books
Ooku
Vagabond
Slam Dunk
Crown of Love
Portrait of M&N
Happy Cafe
Fate/stay night

These are the ones I recall now.

Addicted to Curry, Amatsuki, Sailor Moon, Boku ni Natta Watashi (which is "ecchi/erotic" and I didn't know that at first), Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), Mermaid Saga (Rumiko Takahashi), Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Edit: Also Vagabond & Death Note.

Black Butler, Mermaid Saga, Vagabond & Death Note are just too dark for my taste, I guess. The rest of them, I just got bored. And I'm sad that I didn't like Sailor Moon but that manga just doesn't make any dang SENSE.

Deathnote's a funny one.

I read Deathnote Volume 1 on holiday in Germany last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I've even recommended it other people!

However, for some strange reason I can't explain, I have never bothered to borrow Volume 2 from my library yet. Honestly couldn't tell you why. Just feel like there's always something else I'd prefer to read. Weird.

I've dropped Vampire Kinight after volume 6, and lost track of B.O.D.Y.

B.O.D.Y. is the only one that comes immediately to mind. There are quite a few I haven't caught up with yet but it is just from lack of time and money.

I am about ready to drop Kimi no Iru Machi. It is really frustrating and feels like Seo was told to extend it indefinitely due to popularity or nonsense like that. Yet I keep hoping that this chapter will be the one that finally stops with the pointless drama and gives a proper climax and ending to the series.

death note after L died, and Naruto it seemed like it was the same plot different characters

I've only dropped two series so far:

Hot Gimmick: because I hate when the girl acts so helpless and the fact that she keeps coming back to the boys who abuse her. This one left a really bad taste in my mouth. I thankfully managed to sell off most of my volumes. Good riddance!

Fruits Basket: This one was so hyped and I can't believe how mediocre the story actually was. And eternally happy doormat girls just rub me the wrong way (honestly don't see what is so appealing about them > >). I couldn't take more than three volumes. Every time I saw Tohru, I cringed inside.

I.N.V.U.
Kare Kano

I don't even remember the stories.

I liked the beginning of FB but the end was really disappointing.

>8 Echobrain: I'm the same re Death Note - liked vol 1 but haven't felt I need to read the rest.

>15 novelandmangacrazy: I stopped reading FB a couple of vols before the end - just didn't care any more. There was too much junk going on about the student council and all the stuff with Kyo having known Tohru's mother ... the series just got so bloated and there were so many characters that the ones I really liked got no screen time.

Also dropped:
Gentlemens Alliance + (hated the artwork and story too silly)
Vampire Knight (loved the artwork but had no clue what was going on after about vol 4)
Black Bird (esp as I've just seen that it goes on for 9 vols and still hasn't finished ...)

I loved Gentelmen's Allience Cross.

I've also just finished reading up to volume 9 of Vampire Knight. The story at volume 9 gets to be a little strange, and I'm now trying to figure out where the story will go. However, because I'm getting the books from my library (a.k.a. for free) I'll probably still finish the series.

>17 novelandmangacrazy: I really, really thought I'd love GA+ and hated to give it up, but I was buying the books as my library didn't have it. I'd have kept going if they did, with VK too. But it was too expensive and I don't have enough shelf space for series I'm not in love with. If I find a library that has either series, I will try again.

>18 Sakerfalcon:
A lack of money to buy book, that I totally understand.

When it come to GA+, it starts up slow at the beginning. I enjoyed the second half of the series much more. As for VK, I'm not done the series yet, so I don't know exactly what I think of the series yet.

Do you read any manga online? There are also websites like bookmooch.com and paperbackswap.com that may be useful. A good manga discount store is rightstuf.com.

> 19 I actually liked the beginning of GA+ and then it became pretty wild and the storylines and characters I liked best seemed to be sidelined. I will have to try reading it online. I do want to see the anime of VK, the art is so beautiful.

Thanks for the money-saving suggestions! Definitely helpful, as manga seems more expensive here in the UK than in USA.

I dropped A LOT of Isekai titles. Even the most popular ones are just nonsensical to me. old cliches are everywhere. Thank god Frieren got released, It's a breathe of fresh air to me.

He Is My Master and Oshi No Ko. For Oshi No Ko I read all the way to chapter 150 and got bored, I felt like it deviated from the main plot too much, which was the most interesting part to me. All the side characters felt bland and useless. I don't remember why I dropped He Is My Master though.
