And it is not necessarily about what you post. There are agents, publishers, and wonderful people who link to writing resources (Inkyelbows, for instance), the #amwriting hashtag just to join in with other writers, etc. The trick is to find the things that interest you in a search and then just start following those people who seem to write interesting things or post links to great sites.

I have to agree with you on this. Being interested in new communications technology is part of my being, but this one just caused me to scratch my head a bit.

A man whose ideals I admire posed this question, and it has stuck with me ever since: "In choosing to do this, how will it simplify your life?" That's the yardstick I use for all things. I am, however, open to input which might demonstrate how this tool can measure up.

I don't wish to be contrary, yet I must disagree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. Most of the non-physical complexities of my life have been minimized/removed by the arrival of the internet. The list of processes simplified or removed entirely is too long to place here, but it is substantial.

I've sold several copies of my books to Twitter friends. The thing is, you have to devote some time to it to build relationships, but yeah, it's totally worth doing for me.

I started a Twitter account just for my writer self mainly in order to get the rest of my selves to take the writing seriously: It was like, OK, I am a writer! So write, already.

What I have gotten out of it (the utility of it) is that I have made contacts with all sorts of specialists in my area, discovered blogs and websites I probably never would have found any other way, and found books to read (like I needed more of those, right?).
