It's John Smolens at Northern Michigan University. Has anyone in this group enjoyed his books or otherwise have an opinion or recommendation from his works?

I am going to check out this author here on librarything. The reviews of his books sound interesting.
Also, to revive this thread---who is this year's author?

Dave Dempsey is of course one of our State's best authors, in spite of his residence now in Minnesota. He is a conservationist with historical memory and an orientation to the whole state, which I find rare.
