- This landmark store, specializing in black and African books, is a true gem of Los Angeles. Located in historic Leimert Park, Eso Won Books is a mind-expanding, friendly place, loaded with works from every genre and with books you didn't know existed until you walked in the door. Their events feature a wide range - everyone from Bill Clinton to Octavia Butler to Walter Mosley, along with newly emerging writers. Owners James Fugate and Tom Hamilton are deeply knowledgeable - they will warn you off an iffy work and toward a more solid one - and are likely to get into a conversation with customers about anything from Western films and movies, science fiction movies or international politics. Thing is, they know what they're talking about. Anything you want, they can order it. Anything you wonder if exists, they will tell you if it's so. Eso Won doesn't have an events feed, but they update their event offerings at their Booksense site. Enjoy!
