A visit to RANDALL HOUSE RARE BOOKS in Santa Barbara is an experience which will make you forget about time and just enjoy the moment. Step into the historic Adobe built in 1825, start reading a first edition of Captain Cook's Voyages from 1777 and you will think time has gone backwards. Take Audubon's Birds of America into the cactus garden and see the hummingbird illustrated in the book, drinking nectar from the flowers. RANDALL HOUSE was founded in 1975. The first location for the bookshop was on Post Street in San Francisco. The Gonzalez-Ramirez adobe at 835 Laguna Street in Santa Barbara became the new home of Randall House a decade later. The adobe is a National Landmark, and gives a wonderful ambiance to the collections of rare and distinguished books housed there. Ron Randall grew up surrounded by the world of books, books which were then rare, and ones which were to become rare. His father, David A. Randall, was for many years head of Scribners rare book department, and later the first Director of the famous Lilly Library at Indiana University.

The bookstore keeps regular hours and is open to the public. Many collectors have found their way to Santa Barbara over the years, as have many fine collections of books. Since Randall House deals with books and art, we travel extensively to acquire rare and unusual items. RANDALL HOUSE's name is associated with many famous books, such as the Coverdale Bible, the Gutenberg Bible leaf containing the Ten Commandments, as well as manuscripts by Joseph Conrad and Mark Twain. It has established itself as one of the pre-eminent rare book businesses in the country. In addition Randall House performs appraisals and specialty consulting work. Randall House also represents customers at major auctions in the United States and abroad. The book store prides itself on having something for everyone. Whether you collect nineteenth century literature, presidential autographs, fine press books, and bindings, books and maps about explorations and voyages, books illustrated by famous artists, western Americana or rare bibles, you may be certain to find something of interest to you. Our fine art department handles only paintings and prints of the highest quality. Works by famous American artists and illustrators are on display, John James Audubon, Edward Borein, Will James, William Merrit Chase, John Falter, William Keith, Howard Pyle and many more. Randall House owns the N.C. Wyeth painting which became the title page for Robert Louis Stevenson's The Black Arrow and which is on exhibit at the bookstore. (abebooks.com)
