Finally, Izzy's book. The story here is split between Eden/Izzy and Danny/Jenni. There is a lot going on here, almost too much. However, the opening sequence detailing Danny's wounding and subsequent hospital stay and watching Danny grow up and come to terms with his family and Izzy held my interest. ( )

This is one of those books that remind me why I love a certain genre (in this case, chick lit). It has everything I could wish for, and then some: humor, drama, romance, family crisis, surprising twists and turns... Like I said, everything.

Roxy Rule is one of those impossible-not-to-love characters. She's funny, she's friendly, she has an amazing family and a hot best friend. I really loved Roxy. I was rooting for her the entire novel and I was wishing she'd end up with the love of her life, Ollie. Just when things get complicated and she starts to doubt everything in her life, from her job, to her boyfriend, her two sisters knock on her door, needing some time off from their own lives. Her younger sister is pregnant with an unknown man and her older sister just broke up with her boyfriend. I liked how Roxy tries to protect her sisters and hide the fact that they moved in with her from her parents. And I liked that out of all the sisters, she was the least judgmental one, the one that just listens and waits for things to unfold, the one that doesn't try to pry.

Ollie is Roxy's best friend since infancy. I liked him, even though he gave me a big surprise near the end of the book. I don't know how I would've reacted if I were Roxy, but I liked the fact that in the end Ollie makes things right and he makes the right decision. He's been in love with Roxy for a long time, but he doesn't act on it. I liked that he doesn't force things, though I would've expected more resistance towards all the crap his girlfriend was throwing his way.

I think the subject of love between two best friends is a dangerous subject, but Cat Lavoie wrote a beautiful story and I had a lot of fun reading it. For me, it was one of those books that you start reading and the next thing you know, it's a few hours later and you are reading the last page.

If you love chick lit, you definitely need to read Breaking The Rules. ( )

Breaking the Rules
Troubleshooters series #16

Dan Gillman & Jenn LeMay; Izzy & Eden Zanella; also features Ben Gillman (Dan & Eden's younger brother)

This installment centers around the reconciliations of Dan and Jenn and Izzy and Eden. They are (reluctantly at first) thrown together in order to rescue Ben Gillman from a bizarre "church" camp which is geared toward "making gay people straight" through intimidation and violence which he was basically kidnapped and forced to go to under the direction of his greedy and abusive stepfather. He later is again caught up in dangerous circumstances when he tries to help a new friend who has just managed to escape from her life as a sex slave. This becomes life threatening and requires the expertise of Dan and Izzy and other SEALs, as well as assistance from the FBI.

Dan Gillman slowly starts to grow up in this one as he realizes that he actually loves Jenn and starts to reconnect with his sister, Eden, and younger brother, Ben. He also becomes closer to Izzy as he recognizes the need for his new family.

Izzy has been trying to contact Eden, even traveling to Germany several times, after she miscarried her baby and ran away from their new marriage. Every time he tries to contact her, he is refused, so he is unable to let her know that he really loves her and wants to be there for her. He decides to try to find her one last time and either reconcile or use the meeting as a form of closure for himself. The two of them have a hard time just saying how they feel because they are so caught up in their own pride. They end up wasting a lot of time but they do get there and turn out to be a sweet and hopeful couple. ( )

I. Love. Izzy. Love love love him. You know his character has to be based on at least one real man...probably several. I also love that Izzy and Dan are way completely flawed, loveable, and find happily ever right now, working on forever with wicked strong women. I love that Eden is as screwed up as her brother and stills works at the right decisions. In short, Brockmann makes real life another character in her books.

If this is the very last SEAL Team Sixteen-Troubleshooters Inc book, that Brockmann writes, I am ok with it. This is a sharp, powerful, confident close to an excellent series. ( )
