Darwyn Cooke is the Eisner Award-winning writer/artist of such classics as DC: The New Frontier, Selina's Big Score, and last year's smash-hit, The Hunter. Now, Cooke is back and following up the New York Times best-selling Hunter with a heart-pounding sequel: The Outfit. After evening the score with those who betrayed him, and recovering the money he was cheated out of from the syndicate, Parker is riding high, living in swank hotels and enjoying the finer things in life again. Until, that is, he's fingered by a squealer who rats him out to the Outfit for the price they put on his head… and they find out too late that if you push Parker, it better be all the way into the grave!.… (mehr)

When I first opened up Cooke's first Parker adaptation, The Hunter, I didn't get it. I was just glancing over the page, not really seeing the art. The art is "deceptively simple," to use a cliché. When you really start reading the pages and examining the panels, you see what Cooke has accomplished. The stories and characters are captured brilliantly by the art style and the layouts. Super fun. This is the third book in Westlake's Parker series. Written in effective actionpacked sequences, these books follow a master thief, Heister, and bank robber, who operates on his own with a few buddies and has had his differences with The Syndicate or the Outfit. There is no wasted narrative in these books, just full-on action.
When Parker had his showdown with Bronson back in the first book in the series, he warned Bronson that he knew one hundred guys who weren't organized, but were professionals. Parker warned that this hundred guys across the country had their eyes on Outfit casinos and collection points, but hadn't hit the Outfit because they had always figured they were on the same side. Sounded like a bit of grandstanding but whoever knew Parker to make empty threats?

Now the Outfit has been sending guys after him again and Parker decides it's time to hit back. He writes letters to the guys, telling them to hit Outfit properties, telling the guys that the a Outfit has gotten fat and sloppy.

The guys get together and start pulling off professional jobs on Outfit casinos and nightclubs and other operations. Bronson doesn't know what is coming.

A fast paced, action-filled novel pitting Parker against his old enemies. Parker is just as tough and as ruthless as ever. ( )

Great adaptation of Stark's novel of the same name. If anything this adds to the fantastic Parker story rather than simply retelling it in graphic novel form. ( )

As good as the first volume, maybe even a little better. I wish the Library had the subsequent volumes. ( )
