Thriller

This is one of two novels bundled together in a Reader’s Digest Large Type edition. Private Detective Joe Pike and his comrade Elvis Cole solve one more mystery together..

Another great Joe Pike novel. He tries to rescue a damsel in distress who isn't who she appears to be. Things go downhill quickly. Elvis Cole plays a big role in this one; I love how these two characters interact and their unspoken bond with each other. ( )

This was a strange one. Still had the characters and plot we love, but was still a little strange. Like, for example the bad guy, thought he was a werewolf, wanted to kill a zombie, and had two people talking to him the whole time, who were they, voices in his head? Was he schizophrenic or something? They seemed to make a big point of it, but never explained it away. Also at the end, we always hear how careful Joe Pike is and how good he is, but that guy gets the drop on him no problem? Come on, Pike would have picked that guy up a mile away regularly if it wasn't needed for the plot. But don't change your characters to fit the plot, change the plot to fit the characters!

But overall it was an enjoyable book, as they all are, I'm just being nitpicky. ( )

E comincia un difficile processo di maturazione tra gli impegni di lavoro e la convivenza con il figlio Theo che crescendo si staccherà da lei, e riuscirà a instaurare un rapporto civile solo dopo essersi sposato e allontanato da casa. Il tentativo di riprendere una vita sentimentale la fa sentire a disagio, la spinge alla rinuncia definitiva. Quando va in pensione e si appassiona alla lettura, trova finalmente un equilibrio e riesce a riconciliarsi con il figlio, anche se una nuova tragedia, più grande di tutte le altre, è in agguato. ( )
