What I enjoyed the most about this story is the winter-time and Christmas period setting. The frost, the snow, the warm fires, and getting snowed in with inches of snow covering the ground and buildings. There's also several lovely scenes in the town of Lulling, in which Thrush Green is located, of the local decorations in the High Street including a Christmas Tree and the shops fronts display lovely themes including Father Christmas. Meeting the same characters from the first book, Thrush Green, is a delight; especially grumpy, old Mr Piggott the Warden/Sexton of the local church, Dimity and her bossy friend Ella, and Dotty, the eccentric old lady who lives in the Woods. I also liked the first gin party Dimity and Ella hold, inviting their friends to share a social treat. I adored the local Rector, chubby and warm-hearted, who makes friends with a newcomer to the village. There's a rescue, a commemoration to build, a criminal to apprehend, romance, and a newcomer to welcome. https://readableword.wordpress.com/2021/10/02/winter-in-thrush-green-by-miss-rea... ( ) A cozy interlude in the Cotswold village of Thrush Green, where the inhabitants are as comfortable as can be, newcomers are viewed with suspicion, but quickly fit right in, and even when things go slightly awry, you know they'll come right in the end, with everyone snug at home where the kettle is singing and there's a cat in the corner. I think Thrush Green is a little like Mayberry...life was never this "nice" or simple, but it's a comfort to pretend it might have been. This is the second volume in the Thrush Green Series, published in 1961. As with all of the series I've read, the plot revolves around the inhabitants of the small village and the relationships among them. The excitement this time is provided by a handsome single man moving to town and the marriage of two lonely but loved long time villagers. Miss Read once again brings us comfort food without the usual guilt. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
