What would you do if a golden carriage pulled by a lion came to your playhouse one sunny morning? Invite him in, of course! I did not like this book because, to me, it did not make much sense. I didn't understand whether the book was supposed to be about a little girl imagining a crazy story and an imaginary friend or if it was an actual story about a friend from the sun arriving a lion-drawn carriage made of roses. It was just a strange story. I also did not like this story because not very much happened and it did not include very many details. There was no conflict or rising action or falling action. There was no storyline, so there was nothing to really follow. When the two little girls were together, the author had a chance to describe their activities more clearly. For example when they traded their dolls' dresses, the author could have described the dresses or why they traded them. The author just lacked in interesting details about the story. The big idea of this story is to cherish the good things in life even when they are over. The little girl cherished the memories of her friend being there rather than being sad that her friend has left. This book is by Barbara Helen Berger who also wrote and illustrated Animalia. In this very simple text a young girl in a play cottage is visited by a friend pulled in a carriage by a lion. They play and color all day until it is night and time for the friend to leave. Sweet, and simple. A book that many children would enjoy imagining happening to themselves. Neat writing idea - have children write who would their imaginary visitor be and what amazing things might they do for an entire day together? Discovered by Juliet.
