A fun tongue-twister, but I don't know how much my storytime group got out of it. ( )

In my opinion, “Stalling” is a great book! The first thing that I liked about this book was how the title was closely related to the main idea of the book. The title of the book was “Stalling”, which relates to the central idea that children like to stall their parents and that while stalling kids can learn a lot about the world around them and get involved in a lot of different things. For instance, while stalling his parents, Dan said that he was going to “visit the Nile, play dominoes, do origami, and solve a crime…” etc. I think that the fact that Dan talked about doing so many different things while stalling his parents is truly characteristic of children’s imaginations and shows how smart children really are. I think that this book is very relatable to children, especially during bedtime. For example, my sister always wants to do tons of little things (such as go find a stuffed animal, re-brush her teeth, eat a snack, etc.) right before bedtime so that she can “stall” or make bedtime come slower. I feel that this is a great book for kids to relate to also in the sense that they can connect with Dan with their large imaginations. This book may even inspire children to use their imagination more often, maybe even to “stall” their parents. I also like how the illustrations in this story are realistic. The illustrations look like real photographs of the things that Dan is imaging. I think that these illustrations do a great job of emphasizing how important and powerful one’s imagination truly is. A story about a boy that knows how to take stalling to a new level. While he is stalling, his parents fall asleep, giving him a bit more time to stall. A mixed media format. ( )
