This book is about a boy and his dog switching lives for the day. They both wanted to try the other ones life out and they did all that the other did for that day. This included the dog going to school and the boy eating the dog's homework. The boy liked being a dog because he just got to play and rest. In the end the boy and dog both decide that being a dog is better. ( )

Summary: The book is about a boy who has a dream that he and the family dog switch places. The boy acts like a dog the whole day, and the dog acts like the boy the whole day. The boy does dog things such as running around in the yard, eating dog food, laying on the rug and getting locked in the garage. Once the boy wakes up, he and the dog decide that being a dog is the best!

Critique of Genre: Fantasy because dogs don't talk and a boy and a dog would not switch lives.

Age: Primary

Media: water color, tempra paint ( )

This is a fiction book about a boy and his dog who switch places for one day. This would be a good book to teach imagination and to have the children create their own book following the same style of writing. i.e If you could switch places with any animal, what would it be and how would that day go? In my opinion this book was very enjoyable and I admired how the author wrote this book. The writing in the book was engaging to me I wanted to keep reading about the different things that the boy Jacob had to do as a dog. The characters were well developed but somewhat imaginative because I know as an adult we know that children can not talk to their pets or pretend to be their pets. As a child they will read this book and want to do just what Jacob does, but their parents might not like that. The book has illustrations and pictures on every page, and with every picture the words on the page matched. I liked the pictures because they were drawn very well, they helped me imagine the different events and obstacles Jacob had to do when he was pretending to be his dog Max. The big idea that I took from the book would be that we have to be ourselves and that there is always good parts and bad parts to a persons life.

This book was about a boy who traded places with his dog for the day and they did everything that each other would normally do. Which included, the dog went to school, the dog did homework, and the dog got to sit at the dinner table. I thought this book was very cute but did not seem to find a central message.

The illustrations were very entertaining and the story line was cute. ( )
