I feel like I've read this book before... a very long time ago, or else, a book rather similar.
Very annoying, but as I've not marked it as already read, maybe it's all in my head :)

World-building was good, all scenes and environments were sufficiently described.

Character development was good, we follow Sarah and Roland through their meeting, fighting and romance. Romance levels were good, not too much, right till the end where it got seriously overkill and mushy. The rest of the cast was active and we learned a lot about their history, opinions and feelings. Loved how Bastien was portrayed!

Pacing and flow were good, good amount of action and enough downtime in between for the story to evolve. Of course as this is a series, ends were left open for the continuation.

The book itself was well written and I found no (noticeable) errors. There is sex described in this book.

All in all an entertaining start to a series. Look forward to reading more in this world and kinda hoping there is more than just Immortal Guardians and vampires :) ( )

This one is just a run of the mill romance with a bit of plot around it.
I think "cute" describes it pretty well.
I immediately got a bad first impression because of the blatant and pushy virtue signalling regarding healthy and environmentally friendly food and so on, particularly because it consists of parroting deceptive advertising, not any researched advice.
I found this especially aggravating because there is another obvious message I liked and it's the only remarkable thing about this novel but feels somehow cheapened by the covert advertising of "Organic" and "Natural" products.
It talks about how the own family can be just as casually shitty and traitorous as the next person and that it is okay to have completely cut all emotional ties to them.
It doesn't shy away from a simply bad Family. Not bad because of tragic circumstances, not supervillain bad, no, just bad. Casually bad people exist and they come from families just like everyone else and you don't have to forgive them or redeem them because you share DNA.
I am sick and tired of hearing about borderline abusive family but it's ok, you have to forgive because family is important and everyone is happy in the end and all that crap.

Apart from that, the entire plot is incredibly naive and clicheé. The author would be the appetizer in any actual ruthless secret war involving societies and other groups with this level of innocence. One could call it gross stupidity in a few places but because everyone is affected by it it doesn't really matter. It boils down to the plot just being the 2D backdrop for the romance. There are a few good ideas in this book but it doesn't strive to be anything more and doesn't build on any of it. It's just a smutty romance. Wasted potential. I enjoyed the smut tho. Sex sells in the end I guess. ( )

I came so close to dnf'ing so many times I'm still amazed I was able to finish this.
Huge disappointment.

Started out good. Promising. Then it went down hill and just got worse by the page.

The best thing I can say about this story is 'No Obvious Editing Errors.'
Things happen that never get explained. And they were important things!
The most interesting character was Not one of the mc's.

It's like she borrowed from EVERY paranormal series out there, threw it in this ONE book and added Organic preaching and Teenager giggling to it. Don't get me started on the Organic preaching. In fact, there is a TON of Preaching in this story. More than half the book is Preaching! There is so much preaching the author should have written in a Pulpit

I definitely will NOT be continuing this series.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book I'm not sure why I have not read or even heard of this series before now since I have been reading paranormal romance books for over a decade. I think I need a better place to get recommendations than Goodreads and Amazon because their recommendations are getting to be way off base, almost as bad as the suggestions Netflix gives. “Because you watched The Exorcist, we recommend Elmo's Playhouse.” It makes no sense. I found this series through Facebook when one of the authors I follow asked what everyone is reading.

Sarah was thrown into the bazaar world of vampires and Immortal Guardians one morning before dawn. She couldn't sleep so she decided to get an early start on a vegetable garden. She witnessed a few men attacking another man and staking him to the ground. She rescued the man and ended up in danger from the men she rescued him from who turned out to be human minions of a vampire.

I liked Sarah but thought she was too good to be true. She was way too nice and a goodie two shoes. She even ate organic foods and didn't drink alcohol. Anyone who knows me or reads my reviews knows that perfect people both bore and irk me. I like flawed characters who have made mistakes and have struggled to become better for it. Sarah was just too perfect.

The author did a great job of introducing characters who will probably be featured in future books and setting up the ongoing plot by keeping an interesting background story going. I look forward to the next book. ( )

I love Marcus and Roland, and I found the immortals Vs vampires aspect quite interesting, but unfortunately that want enough for me to finish the book.

Let me start by saying that I HATE SARAH! I am a somewhat eco-conscious vegan, but I couldn't stand her constant judging of anyone who eats non-organic food, her obsession with pointing out that she sees most food as poisonous, and even the fact that she doesn't have a mobile phone because she believes that one would give her a tumour. "Filled with sexy men and plenty of action, Darkness Dawns kept me turning the pages well past my bedtime. This debut novel from Dianne Duvall was a thrilling read. She's definitely one author to watch. Immortal Guardians is a fantastic new series filled with danger, heart-melting heroes and plenty of warm moments (awww). I can also say there were plenty of hot moments, too!"
