After having just finished listening to the audio book, 'The Coldest Winter,' I came across a copy of 'Give Me Tomorrow,' and decided to read it. The two books share some of the same action, but tell different stories from different perspectives. Both stories are full of first hand accounts of the Korean War. However, while 'The Coldest Winter' gives a fairly broad perspective of the war, 'Give Me Tomorrow' focuses on the action of George Company and some of the battles they were involved in. I found these two books to compliment each other nicely. I found the story of George Company so interesting that it was difficult to put it down. It told of the men who fought so bravely under such horrific conditions in some of the worst fighting in the Korean War. By the time the war was over, it appears that they lost approximately 75% of their company. Not only did they often find themselves surrounded by Chinese Regiments or Divisions and fighting in hand to hand combat, but they suffered terribly from the freezing weather and lack of sufficient supplies. These men were truly heroes and this story is a wonderful tribute to them. I have never read such about such extended firefights. The bravery of the American Marines and the North Korean and Chinese soldiers is amazing. Band of Brothers, for example, has close combat but not day after day, hour after hour of encounters with the enemy under 200 metres away. In Canada the Korean vets were not treated well when they returned home. The injustice of this was thrown at me when I read how the front line troops major goal was just to survive until tomorrow. Bravo Patrick Donnelly for reminding us of how fierce the Korean War-especially the retreat was. I also know now why Truman sacked Douglas McArthur. That general was a legend in his own mind and many Marines lost their lives because he would not recognize or react to reality. Swing Easy -30- Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Living in modern-day Seoul, nearly 50 years after the truce, was a stark contrast to where the countries were in the mid 1900's. ( )
