I truly enjoyed Wick and Philippa's story. ( )

"And they all lived happily ever after." Just like I like my romances. I'm a sap. Don't judge.

Cute follow up to [b:A Kiss at Midnight|6957682|A Kiss at Midnight (Fairy Tales, #1)|Eloisa James|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1294044185s/6957682.jpg|7193900]--this time starring Wick. We have a slightly modern woman in Phillipa Damson, running from a marriage looming in her future to make her own way. She runs right into the nearby castle to assist the princess with her ailing infant. Luckily for everyone, Phillipa's uncle is a skilled, if unconventional, physician, and she uses what she's learned from him to save the baby. Wick, like everyone, is impressed by this undercover lady posing as a nanny. Misunderstandings and flirtations abound, and we come to the conclusion we knew was coming and hoped for. Like all fairy tales, they all seem to live happily ever after. ( )

Sweet Short and a great little romantic tale. ( )

I had mixed feelings about this book.
On the one hand, the characters were all pretty cute, the love story was nice, it had a happy ending. And I have to take into consideration the author had a limited amount of space, given that this was a novella.
So here are my thoughts.

I don't tend to be a fan of books where the love stories happen naturally, with no emotional roadblocks (such as friendship or hatred) to overcome, and this happened naturally.

The ending was incredibly abrupt. One minute, our heroine is almost going to marry her dreaded ex-fiance, and the next, our hero swoops down on a horse and saves the day. Not sure I was the biggest fan.

It did make me want to read the prequel, however!
So all in all, I gave this book 3 stars, because while it wasn't my particular favorite brand of romance novel, it was still a good read. ( )

Far, far better than [b:A Kiss at Midnight|6957682|A Kiss at Midnight (Fairy Tales, #1)|Eloisa James|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1294044185s/6957682.jpg|7193900] however, it is hampered by it's shorter length which is a shame because the charming Wick deserved more as the ending was uncomfortably fast and abrupt. I was appalled at Rodney's treatment of Phillipa, the chemistry between her and Wick was palpable, and I laughed and reveled in the adorable cuteness of the characters and situations. This novella has given me hope that [b:When Beauty Tamed the Beast|8449698|When Beauty Tamed the Beast (Fairy Tales, #2)|Eloisa James|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1282320694s/8449698.jpg|13313623] will be even better than the disappointing first book.

3.5 stars.

Favourite Quotes

'There was something about Miss Damson that made even a man with wet breeches hungry. Lustful.'

"Princesses swan about in satin-lined carriages. What's more, everyone knows that when a princess has a child, it has a rosebud mouth and sunny blue eyes. Whereas I have birthed the ugliest baby in all Christendom." ~ Princess Kate

"I never heard of a lady nursing her own baby before. I'm sure that's the problem." She leveled a thin finger at Kate. "What that child needs is the milk of a hardy peasant. Yours is probably thin and blue. Though now that I think on it, you're practically a peasant yourself." ~ Princess Sophonisba

"In fact, one castle is the same as any other. The lot of them sit around buggering each other, if not the sheep." ~ Princess Sophonisba
