Andrews (26 Aug 1973) I did not find this too well organized nor did I find reference therein to anything I felt I must read. Eleven books mentioned in the book I had read, and since then I have read these others mentioned: Paul Corey's The Road Returns and his County Seat (these books, with his Three Miles Square are, so far as I know, the only fiction having as its locale my native county--Shelby County, Iowa) and Vandemark's Folly, by Herbert Quick, and four books by Hamlin Garland in January of 1982, But I have not read others I noted as maybe I should read. (My post-reading notes are cluttered with notes as to what I maybe ought to read, and some of the books noted I actually have.) ( ) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Originally published in 1972, A Literary History of Iowa, which features writers published in book form between 1856 and the late 1960s, returns to print. One of Iowa's native sons, Ellis Parker Butler, once said that in Iowa 12 dollars were spent for fertilizer each time a dollar was spent for literature. Many readers will be surprised to learn from this book the extent of Iowa's distinguished literary past---the many prizes and praise received by her authors. To those already familiar with Iowa's credits, A Literary History of Iowa will be a nostalgic and informative delight. During the 1920 Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
