In the book "The Speckled Band", Mr. Homes is visited by Helen Stoner who is in desprite need of his assistance. Years ago, her sister Julia was to be married. That very night in an old mantion they live in with their uncle, he sister heard a man wistling and a metal clanking noise. Then all of a sudden he was screaming and died imediently after she spoke "The speckled band!". Soon Helen was to be wedded too and she also heard a whistiling and clanking metal because for no reason her uncle moved her into the same room were her sister died. Holmes decides to investigate the house hold and try to get a good idea of what happend and what is to come. Before he could leave, Dr.Roylott (Helen uncle) barged into the room after she left and was raging mad that she was talking to him on their visit to London. Holmes was very suspitious of this man and wanted to solve this case before anything could happen. When Dr. Roylott was still in London, Holmes, Watson, and Helen went to her home and looked around Dr. Roylott's and Julia's room for clues. He found a strang servent bell right next to Julia's bed that didn't work and went strate from a air venalation to the bed. The venalation was odd because it just went from Dr. Roylott's room to her's. Dr. Roylott's room was just as pecular. It had a locked safe with a bowl next to it and a leash. There is also a chair that is positioned right next to the ventilator. After the investigation, Holmes has a plan. That night he stayed in an inn until the docter was asleep. Then he when into Helens room and made everyone stay away from the bed. Just then a speckled band slithered down from the ventilator and onto the bell to get to the bed. Then Holmes attacked the snake and sent it back up the bell in suprise. Soon they all heared a blood curtling cry and then silence. Dr. Roylott had been bitten by his pet and had died after a few seconds. Holmes cleverness had saved Helen from sertine death.

This story is a classic and even after a hundered years it is still a greatly loved story. It may be old but you can still understand what the charaters are saying and enjoy the story. For eny of those mystery and murder people, they should read this book. It involves alot of noticing important little details that change the corse of the story. Murdering family members for saving money and doing in a horrible fashion is also involved. I'm glad they saved Helen from the same terrible death of her twin sister but I'm also sad they couldn't save Julia too. But if she haddn't died, then the mistery couldn't have been solved. I really recomend it so please at least try it.(It's a really short book.)

This story with Sherlock Holmes is about a mysterious killing of a girl probably around her 20's. Sherlock Holmes is sent to investigate what has happened to her. The Murder is shadowed with mystery though because nobody can even begin to guess how she could've been killed because she was in her room, door locked, and bars over the window. Though there was one way in, a vintelation shaft that goes from her room to her uncle's room. Though this shaft was way too small for a human to fit through. The uncle is friends with some gypsies who have brought him some exotic pets from their lands. One of which is a tiger, this tiger is not of any importance though. The important animal is a snake that he receives from them. Its deadly, and you don't find out until the end of the story that thats the way the woman was killed. The man let the snake go down the shaft and bite the woman(it was a poisonous snake) and then the man would whistle a very high-pitched whistle to bring the snake back up. The man later tried to kill the woman's sister, but he failed because the snake bit him first.

Sherlock Holmes is on an adventure to find the murder who killed a girl. Sherlock Holmes is an over average detective on a case. With his trusty partener Watson they discover that money is the cause of the murder. Sherlock and his friend Watson are on the case. Sherlock is beyond extrodinary this is not your normal case. With minimal leads he needs to find the cause. Greed turns to be the cause of this. The murder is solved.

This book is great. It is a mystery that keeps you on your toes. You will not won't to put it down. Sherlock is a great detective. This is a suspenceful story. You will love it. It shows history before scientific gadgets it is good. This book was great. ( )
