I liked this book because the words were simple and the pages were colorful. I liked that the words were constantly in the same place and the pictures were simple. They were not very realistic but not distracting either. I thought the book was really good for early readers wanting to know more about Benjamin Franklin. Was it super informative? No, but again it was a very good introduction to reading biographies. My second grader really enjoyed the book, I think because the words were clear and simple, the pictures were informative but not distracting, and he was able to read about “Benjamin Franklin flying a kite in a storm”. The my first biography series is an incredible resource for any classroom. I really enjoy the simplicity of the information in the book. This book represents the most important parts of Benjamin Franklin's life in a very engaged and interactive way. The simplicity and fun manner if the writing thus story makes it perfect for students in first and second grade. This is a great introductory book to biography's. ( )

In my opinion, the book "Benjamin Franklin" was a great book for young readers. One thing I liked about this book was the simplicity. Each page only has about 1 sentence so it is easy to read and presents the information in a concise manner. For example, one page reads: "In his spare time, he read and practiced writing." This is a very basic display of something that Benjamin Franklin did with his time, which would be easy for a young reader to understand. I also liked the illustrations in this book. They were drawn and looked like they were painted. The detail was simple, allowing the reader to focus on the text at the bottom of the page and absorb the important things from the images instead of insignificant details. For example, one page is about how he had only completed 2 years of school. The illustration on that page has a basic town without many decorations on the buildings, and very few people around. The text is also always at the bottom of the page, creating consistency and allowing the young reader to expect where the text would be on each page. Overall, I thought this was a great way to introduce a young reader to reading biographies in a simple and concise way. The big idea of this book was to inform readers about the life and accomplishments of Benjamin Franklin. ( )

I didn’t like this book. The illustrations weren’t very detailed. They didn’t do anything to show me what Benjamin Franklin looked like or the time he lived in. Everything was very colorful but not realistic or relatable. I didn’t like the writing because the author’s opinion showed through. Biographies are supposed to be unbiased. “This country has many founding fathers. Benjamin Franklin was one of the most amazing.” The author used different words to show what their opinion of Franklin was, “…worked long and hard…”, “…useful objects…”, “…daring…”, “…facts and wise sayings…”, and “…amazing man…” I don’t think biographies should have the author’s opinion shown so obviously. Biographies are supposed to be factual and unbiased. The big idea is to inform the reader about the life of Benjamin Franklin. ( )

My first biography of Benjamin Franklin by Marion Dane Baver and illustrated by Anthony Lewis; is a short story of the life Benjamin Franklin. It talks about from the time he was born, his large family, and his love of learning even through he had to leave school at ten. It talks about some of his inventions like ways to use electricity, and swim flippers. The book touches on him being one of the founding fathers of the United States, and signing the Declaration of Independence.

As I read this book I learned some things that I did not know about Benjamin Franklin. It inspirited me to read more about his life.

I would use this book when talking about Benjamin Franklin. You could use it when doing a unit on famous American and inventors. This book could also be used when talking about electricity.
